Warning! Spoilers for Legion of Super-Heroes #11 below!

The destruction of Superman's home planet of Krypton is one of the most iconic parts of the Man of Steel's origin story, and apparently, it's going to happen again. Far into the futuristic timeline of Legions of Super-Heroes (the 31st century to be exact), the House of Zod has established a New Krypton - but apparently the planet can't seem to catch a break!

Krypton first appeared in Action Comics #1 in June 1938, but it wasn't actually named until the following year in Superman #1. While much has been written about the planet's past and the events leading up to its destruction, the planet also has an unexpected future in the form of New Krypton. As Jon Kent aka Superboy discovered for himself,  New Krypton has a thriving legacy in the future thanks to the House of Zod once lead by Superman's enemy, General Zod. With the once-bottled city of Kandor as its capital, New Krypton has become a thriving destination within the galaxy.

Unfortunately, it looks like Krypton's past is about to catch up to the planet, with potentially tragic consequences. According to the solicitations for Legion of Super-Heroes #11, news of Superboy's presence within the current Legion of Super-Heroes line-up will awaken an old enemy that will face off with Jon Kent and perhaps threaten the very existence of New Krypton. If that weren't enough, the solicitations also tease more details about the Legion's enigmatic Gold Lantern.

  • For a thousand years, the planet Krypton has been rebuilding itself, and the House of Zod has kept the legacy of Krypton alive throughout the galaxy. For a thousand years, the capital city of Kandor—home of the hero known as Mon-El—has been a beacon of hope across the universe. But now the shocking news that Superboy has come to live in the 31st century with the Legion of Super-Heroes has awoken Krypton’s greatest foe! How can the Legion of Super-Heroes stop the destruction of New Krypton? Plus, delve into the mystery behind Gold Lantern!
  • Release Date: November 24th, 2020

The biggest unanswered question is just who will threaten New Krypton's safety in the upcoming. The solicitation mentions "Krypton's greatest foe". The most likely candidate is Krypton's super-computer, otherwise known as Brainiac, who is a predecessor to frequent Legion of Super-Heroes member Brainiac 5. Another, more remote possibility is General Zod himself. Though Zod is long dead - especially in the 31st Century - it would be interesting to see the House of Zod confront its violent past in a very real way.

Either way, it looks as though Superboy and the Legion of Super-Heroes will have their hands full trying to save New Krypton from certain disaster. The biggest question is - will New Krypton meet the same fate as its predecessor? Is Krypton simply doomed from the start? And just who is Krypton's greatest foe, who will usher about the destruction of its successor planet? Superboy and the Legion of Super-Heroes better find the answers - or start investing in a lot of rocket ships.
