Warning! Spoilers ahead for Nightwing #89

The latest issue of DC's Nightwing has revealed that Superman is the only hero outside of the Bat-Family who knows an embarrassing fact about Batman's gadgets. Featured in a flashback where Dick Grayson first met Jon Kent as a child, Batman and Superman are seen together talking about their sons and their roles as fathers. However, it also allows Superman to advise Batman on his hilariously problematic gadget placement on his utility belt.

In previous issues of Nightwing, Superman asked Dick Grayson to look out for and check in with Jon, seeing as how his son has since stepped up to become the new Superman after Kal-El left the planet to liberate the dark planet of Warworld. Now, Jon could certainly use some guidance after the most recent issue of Tom Taylor's Superman: Son of Kal-El which saw him being blamed for unavoidable casualties during Metropolis' most recent crisis. While there would have been more deaths had Jon not been there to save lives, he's still beating himself up about those he ultimately couldn't save. As such, the new Nightwing #89 from Taylor and Bruno Redondo sees Nightwing honoring his promise to the original Superman, bringing Jon along as his partner on a case to help him through the rough time he's going through.

However, this new issue begins with a flashback to the past when Dick first met Jon years before as a child. Getting lost trying to fly alone at night, Nightwing and Batman were the first ones to find Jon and Dick was able to calm him down with a lollipop Batman keeps in his utility belt. While lollipops are a known item the Dark Knight keeps stocked to help troubled and traumatized children he might encounter, Nightwing reveals that Batman surprisingly keeps the suckers dangerously close to his similarly sized smoke bombs (despite suggestions that he should move them to a different pouch). However, it seems as though it's only until Superman himself learns of the problematic placement that Batman is embarrassed enough to agree to move them.

While it's a relatively small and humorous scene, it is rather odd that someone as organized and prepared as Batman had his lollipops and smoke bombs so close together in the first place. That being said, it's pretty on-brand for the Dark Knight to ignore Nightwing or anyone else in his family who likely suggested he make changes to his belt. As such, needing to be convinced by Superman is perfect with the equally concerning and embarrassing scenarios he laid out motivating an actual change.

Seeing as how this interaction between Superman and Batman occurred during this flashback, it's likely that Batman has since corrected the potential danger of his gadget placement on his belt. Regardless, it's quite the comical moment from the past while also being incredibly heartwarming, seeing Nightwing and Jon meet for the first time as the sons of the World's Finest while their fathers share their hopes for them, wanting the best for their sons in the DC Universe.
