DC Comics' new series, Superman: Son of Kal-El, has completely sold out upon its launch. The new series comes from writer Tom Taylor, artist John Timms, and colorist Gabe Eltaeb. It follows the original Superman's son as he prepares to take on his father's mantle. He will continue to protect the Earth, just as his father did, in Superman's never-ending battle to take down those who threaten innocents.

Superman: Son of Kal-El comes after a slew of teasers suggesting that Jonathan Kent would take on the role of Superman. The biggest of them all was in Future State where Jonathan had taken the mantle in a potential dark future. Jonathon had adopted the position after his father had taken a leave of absence and vanished into the depths of space. Additionally, Superman and Action Comics have been hinting at just how powerful the new Superman has become, even going as far as to hint that he has the ability to tap into powers that Clark Kent himself doesn't have.

Tom Taylor recently took to Twitter to announce that Superman: Son of Kal-El #1 has completely sold out of its initial run and that DC will be ordering a second printing. The book went on sale July 27 and the reprinted issue will be released on September 7. This is a great sign for Taylor's new Superman series as it's quite rare for issues to completely sell out. Future State had several sell-outs that warranted second printings, but as of today, this is the first of DC's Infinite Frontier era.

Along with the news of the issue selling out, Taylor released a new look at the reprint's revamped cover art. It features one of the issue's most memorable moments as Jonathan soars over Earth, gazing down upon the planet he's sworn to protect. Timm's cover artwork is stunning, as it is throughout the entirety of Superman: Son of Kal-El's first issue. The success of this inaugural issue undeniably bodes well for the series' future.

It was always a risk replacing Clark Kent with Jonathan given how attached fans are to the original Man of Steel. This was a bold decision by DC and fans seem to be responding positively. The move towards Jonathan becoming Superman is a huge deal, which the publisher spent months leading up to in the pages of Superman and Action Comics. But it seems that the risk has paid off as readers have shown a distinct interest in the new series. Superman: Son of Kal-El #1 is available in comic book stores and on digital platforms now.
