Warning! Spoilers for Superman: Son of Kal-El #7 by DC Comics below.

The Man of Steel is about to take on a real-life problem that impacts everyone on Earth as DC's new Superman will fight climate change head-on. In a new preview for the upcoming Superman: Son of Kal-El #7 by DC Comics, Jon Kent will join the likes of Jackson Hyde and his boyfriend Jay Nakamura to protest climate change. Superman comics have never been afraid to tackle real-life issues and now Jon will father in his father's footsteps in making his voice count.

Jon Kent has had quite an eventful month, as he just became the new Superman after his father left Earth and headed to Warworld. As he tries to navigate in a world without his dad and as the replacement to the world's greatest hero, Jon will also develop a new romance with his friend Jay Nakamura. Earlier this week, DC Comics confirmed Jon Kent is bisexual. The news made international headlines, with most reactions being overwhelmingly positive. However, it drew laughable criticism from former Superman Dean Cain as well as an Arizona state Senator, with the latter being widely mocked on Twitter.

On the heels of different climate change movements such as #climatestrike, #fridaysforfuture, and this week's #schoolstrike4climateSuperman: Son of Kal-El writer shared an upcoming cover of Jon Kent joining the fight. In the cover by John Timms, which will appear on Superman: Son of Kal-El #7, Jon stands in the center of a group of protestors which include Nakamura and Jackson Hyde. Kent's sign reads "school strike for climate," while Jackson's says "climate justice," and Nakamura's reads "skolstrejk för klimatet," which is the very same phrase used by climate activist Greta Thunberg.

Superman Climate Change (1)

Since becoming Superman, Jon Kent has battled real-life issues in the DC Universe. Thus far, he's fought wildfires caused by climate change, stopped a school shooting from happening, and has protested refugees being deported. Superman taking on issues from the real world continues his father's legacy, as his dad has battled against oppressive forces for more than half a century - including taking on white supremacists to protect undocumented immigrants.

Jon Kent joining the fight against climate change shows that he gets what being Superman truly means: inspiring and making the world a better place in the process. Using his voice to fight climate change is very much in character for Jon, as it was teased in the debut issue of his ongoing series. Readers can see Superman take on climate change when Superman: Son of Kal-El #7 comes to comic book stores at a later date.
