Warning! Potential spoilers for Superman: Son of Kal-El #5 by DC Comics

In an incredible moment for both DC Comics and representation in comics, the publisher revealed Jon Kent is bisexual and that an upcoming issue will showcase a same-sex relationship between Superman and reporter Jay Nakamura. While reaction to the news was overwhelmingly positive, some people decided to weigh in with ignorance, including Arizona state Senator Wendy Rogers, who was called out for her hilariously wrong take on the trending topic.

Jon Kent is the new Superman in the DC Universe, taking the mantle when his father Clark Kent left the planet to go to Warworld. DC Comics revealed on Monday that in Superman: Son of Kal-El #5 that the new Superman will start a romance with Jay Nakamura. The reporter is a new character to the Superman mythos, as he introduced as a reporter for 'The Truth,' an online news organization. What started off as a friendship will blossom into a relationship, as Kent and Namakura will begin a relationship in the series fifth issue.

On Twitter, the United States Senator tweeted her reaction to the news regarding Jon Kent's sexuality. In the tweet, Rogers wrote that Superman loves "Louis Lane," and that Hollywood was trying to make him gay, when he's not. She added they should rename him "Thooperman" so that people could "know the different and avoid seeing it." Now, obviously, Rogers is mistaking Jon and his father, the original Superman, Clark Kent. And while Lois Lane has had a brother in the Golden Age of comics named Louis, she's probably referring to Lois and not "Louis." Calling Superman seems to be an unfortunate use of the "gay lisp" stereotype. Also, even if Rogers meant to talk about Jon Kent, he's not gay, he's bi. The tweet is hilariously full of misinformation.

Obviously, Rogers was called out by a number of people across the Twitter-sphere. Hundreds of users pointed out her spelling mistake, getting the Superman in question wrong, the fact Jon Kent is Lois Lane's son and not his lover, and using a slur.

For those who might think Wendy Rogers is actually a Superman fan, she has not tweeted about the hero ever before sending out the tweet reaction to the Jon Kent news. It almost seems like she might have an ulterior motive for being a reactionary to the news in the comic book world. Regardless, Rogers is wildly misinformed about the situation. Perhaps, the next time she decides to react to such a newsworthy moment involving a comic book character like Jon Kent's Superman, she first does even a tiny bit of research beforehand.
