New fan art shows other live-action Superman actors taking on Henry Cavill’s Man of Steel pose. On April 18, 1938, Superman was introduced to the comic book world, and since then, the iconic superhero has been seen and portrayed in many different comics, TV Shows, and films. Although he’s not the first live-action Superman, Christopher Reeve is perhaps the most popular and iconic Clark Kent, starring in four Superman films. Brandon Routh took on the cape in 2006 for a Reeve-inspired Superman in Superman Returns, and more recently in the Arrowverse's Crisis on Infinite Earths. However, the Arrowverse's current Superman moving forward is Tyler Hoechlin, who debuted as the Man of Steel in Supergirl in 2016.

Arguably the most well-known and established Superman today is the DCEU’s Henry Cavill, who first became the slightly more intense and physically dominant Clark Kent in Zack Snyder’s Man of Steel in 2013, which not only served as the origin story for Superman but was the catalyst for the entire DCEU. Since then, Cavill’s played Superman in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, Justice League, and the British actor will be seen in the Snyder Cut of Justice League, which is targeting an early 2021 release on HBO Max. But now, Cavill’s popular Man of Steel pose has brought together fellow Superman actors in a brand new piece of art.

Artist ArtOfTimeTravel posted a new piece on Instagram that shows various Superman actors in Cavill’s classic kneeling pose for Man of Steel, where Cavill has one hand touching the ground while looking up. Below the original image of Cavill doing the pose, Reeve, Routh, and Hoechlin’s versions of Superman are all doing the Man of Steel pose, but with their own trademark Superman outfits. The caption for the post simply reads, “Christopher Reeve, Tyler Hoechlin, Brandon Routh or Henry Cavill?”  Full Instagram post can be seen below:

It’s an impressive and fun piece of art, which gives fans a look at seeing the other incarnations of the iconic hero taking on the pose that’s now synonymous with Cavill’s version of Superman. Of course, the caption will almost inevitably lead to some debate about which Superman was better. Interestingly, director Joss Whedon once argued Cavill would take the “top spot” from Reeve as the best Superman if he had the right material behind him. Despite reportedly being in talks with Warner Bros. for a return as Superman, it’ll be interesting to see if Cavill ever gets the “right material” as the studio reportedly does not have faith in a Cavill-led Superman film.

However, for those who have not been big fans of Cavill’s version of the character, Hoechlin will return for another version of Superman, which sees Clark and Lois Lane deal with parenthood in the brand new TV show Superman & Lois that currently has a January 2021 release date. Although the future of the longstanding DC superhero is different for the small screen and the big screen, it will certainly be interesting to see what will happen with Superman moving forward. For now, fans can enjoy some of the live-action history of the superhero with this Man of Steel inspired art.
