A new report suggests that yesterday's shocking news surrounding Henry Cavill's sudden exit from the Superman role was an "invented conflict." It was reported that Cavill was done playing the Man of Steel in the unofficially titled DCEU. So far, Cavill has portrayed Superman in three films: Man of Steel, Superman v Batman: Dawn of Justice, and Justice League. Cavill still has one more movie appearance left on his contract.

Yesterday, THR dropped a bombshell by reporting that Cavill was out as Superman following a breakdown in talks over a cameo in Shazam! that led to further conversations about future appearances in other filmsAccording to the report, Cavill is leaving the DCEU, and Warner Bros. will look to recast the role. Black Panther's Michael B. Jordan has already been mentioned as a possible candidate, but nothing has been set in stone yet. Warner Bros. refuted the report about Cavill's exit and maintains that "no decisions have been made regarding any Superman films."

TMZ reports that the news is an "invented conflict," and claims there have been no discussions about the Superman role because Warner Bros. has no Superman projects currently in the works. TMZ says their sources have told them that Cavill and others may reprise their roles if and when another Superman project goes into development.

Henry Cavill as Superman Clark Kent in Man Of Steel

TMZ's report seems to fall in line with the statements made by both Warner Bros. and Cavill's agent, Dany Garcia, who says "the cape is still in his closet." It's possible that all the talk about Cavill leaving the DCEU is simply a contract negotiating tactic meant to convince Warner Bros. to give in to Cavill's payment demands.

Cavill's possible departure has already led to a great deal of speculation about Superman's cinematic future. There's also the question of where the DCEU would go without the Man of Steel. THR reported that Warner Bros. is shifting their focus from Man of Steel sequels to Supergirl, a movie about Superman's cousin. Writers have already been hired to pen the script of the solo Supergirl movie.

It's worth pointing out that even if Cavill isn't leaving the DCEU, this doesn't necessarily mean that the reports about Supergirl are wrong. It could be that Warner Bros. hasn't discussed whether or not Cavill will continue to wear the cape because they're currently focusing on giving his cousin a solo film first.
