Man of Steel fans are sharing beautiful DCEU shots on Twitter to celebrate star Henry Cavill. Released in 2013, Man of Steel marked the first Zack Snyder DC superhero film, introducing audiences to Cavill's take on Superman. The film was a hit commercially, earning over $668 million at the box office, but proved more divisive amongst critics, with the film currently sitting at a lackluster 56% on Rotten Tomatoes. Man of Steel chronicles Superman's origins, depicting the child's upbringing on Earth before he is forced to go to great lengths to protect the people of Earth after former inhabitants of Krypton invade.
Cavill would go on to appear in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice and Justice League (and Zack Snyder's Justice League), but a sequel to Man of Steel never came to pass. Although fans have clamored for another standalone Superman film with Cavill playing the lead, no such project has yet come to fruition. Cavill himself has expressed a willingness to return to the role and even Kingsman director Matthew Vaughn, who was eager to make a Superman film before Man of Steel came out, has said that making Man of Steel 2 with Cavill is on the list of projects he hopes to make.
Although it's now been almost ten years since Man of Steel was released, many fans are still keen on seeing Cavill return to the role, as evidenced by the recent outpouring of love for the actor on Twitter. Searching "Henry Cavill" on the social media site will lead to dozens of photos of Cavill as Superman, including a number of fun behind-the-scenes shots from Man of Steel. While some tweets appear to be in response to an unfounded Superman-related rumor regarding the upcoming Black Adam, other users seem to be genuinely celebrating Cavill and Man of Steel. One user even goes so far as to say that Cavill's Superman is the best film character of all time. Another fan uses a hashtag calling for Warner Bros. to "#RestoreTheSnyderVerse," a sentiment that was born out of the successful fan petition to "Release the Snyder Cut" of 2017's critically-panned Justice League.
It's currently unclear if Cavill will ever get to reprise his role as Superman, but many fans are clearly still passionate about the character and feel that Man of Steel is deserving of a sequel. Warner Bros. has fairly definitively stated that they no longer intend to pursue the SnyderVerse, and a direct sequel to Man of Steel, at this point, does feel unlikely, but it's still certainly not impossible that Cavill will get to return as Superman in another form. After all, with Ben Affleck and Michael Keaton confirmed to be appearing in the upcoming The Flash as Batman, anything is possible.
