Henry Cavill is asked when Warner Bros. will release Man of Steel 2 or another Superman solo movie, and the actor's response is perfect. Cavill first portrayed Clark Kent aka. Superman in Zack Snyder's Man of Steel, which hit theaters in 2013 and soft-launched Warner Bros' DC movie universe. Cavill reprised the role in Snyder's Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice, the film that officially kicked off the studio's expansive comic book universe. At the end of Batman V Superman, Cavill's superhero was killed by Doomsday and mourned by the heroes he left behind.
Then, Superman was resurrected in 2017's Justice League, and teamed up with his fellow DC superheroes to take on Steppenwolf. However, since director Snyder departed the project and Joss Whedon was hired for the Justice League reshoots, the final film seemed to feature a different arc for Superman than what was originally intended. Despite Cavill's Superman being a point of contention in the discussion surrounding Justice League, as well as the DC movie universe as a whole, fans still want to see him return for another solo film. Now, the actor responds hilariously to the question of when fans might get to see such a movie.

While doing press for his upcoming film, Mission: Impossible - Fallout, Cavil was asked by Fandango's Erik Davis about when Superman fans will get to see the actor don the iconic blue and red suit once again. Jokingly, Cavill offered a (very wide) release window. See Davis' tweet with Cavill's response below.
Even as the DC movie universe expands to include more superheroes like Jason Momoa's Aquaman, Ezra Miller's The Flash, Gal Gadot's Wonder Woman and Ben Affleck's Batman, Cavill's Superman has remained a beloved part. Undoubtedly, this is because Superman is a superhero who remains dear to many comic and movie fans, so they may be excited by the prospect of the Man of Steel returning for another solo outing. Thankfully for those fans, there have been a number of new rumors lately pertaining to Man of Steel 2, which may indicate the sequel is gaining some momentum behind the scenes at Warner Bros.
Earlier this year, it was reported Cavil is looking to extend his DC film contract to include more appearances as Superman, which would make it possible for him to appear in other DC movies as well as a Man of Steel sequel. Further, other rumors claimed Man of Steel 2 is targeting a 2020 release date (which would fit into Cavill's release window, even if he offered it jokingly) and that a Man of Steel sequel announcement is coming soon - either at San Diego Comic-Con later this month or shortly after. While these rumors shouldn't be taken as fact, they definitely indicate there's interest in another Superman movie starring Cavill - definitely among fans and perhaps at Warner Bros. as well.
Whether we get an official confirmation of Man of Steel 2 or some other Superman film remains to be seen, but Cavill continues to have a sense of humor about the possible project, keeping hope alive among fans.
