Dean Cain has been widely criticized for his recent comments on Superman, as a large part of the comic book community hasn't seen eye to eye with his remarks. This week, writer Scott Snyder, dunked on the former Superman actor and all it took was a single word response to a tweet.

Dean Cain is best known for playing Superman in the television series Lois & Clark: The New Adventures of Superman. Since the show ended in the late 90s, Cain has found work in other parts of the DC Comics expanded universe, including playing Jeremiah Danvers in Supergirl before his character was eventually killed off. In his non-acting life, Cain has been a frequent guest on Fox & Friends as well as a public supporter of President Donald Trump. On his last appearance on the Fox News show, he asserted that Superman wouldn't be able to say "truth, justice, and the American Way" in today's political climate - which was immediately dismissed by Superman: Up In The Sky writer Tom King. King wasn't the only comic writer to throw shade Cain's way, as current Justice League writer Scott Snyder made sure to get in on the action by calling out the former Superman actor.

In a question posed on Twitter with a picture of Cain as Superman with the caption "Who is this? Wrong answers only," Snyder responded with a single word: Superman. Clearly, Snyder is implying that Cain isn't representative of Superman, as his personal beliefs seem to counter what the DC Comics hero is all about. Snyder has written Superman plenty and had to get in the mind of the Man of Steel - so it's not like he doesn't know what he's talking about. Regardless, it was a great zinger by Snyder. One person who didn't seem to like the joke? Dean Cain. He tweeted that the joker was "Cute. But that ship has already sailed, Scott."

All-in-all it's a pretty harmless tweet from Snyder that clearly resonated with his followers and beyond, as it was retweeted more than 1,600 times, and was liked more than 17,000 times. Obviously, Cain doesn't like to be the butt of jokes - but perhaps, he should have thought about that before he made such silly comments about Superman. It's remarkable someone could play the role of Superman for so long and stand so opposite of the ideals the iconic hero would be for, but that's the reality we live in.
