Superman star Henry Cavill is excited to meet with DC Studios boss James Gunn about his character's future. While the DCU (formerly known as the DCEU) has come a long way, the franchise has been without the hero that started the interconnected universe for several years. Getting his start in Zack Snyder's Man of Steel, Cavill has remained the big screen's current version of Krypton's last son since 2013. After starring in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, and Justice League, Cavill has been absent from the DCU and has gone on to star in massive franchises, including Mission: Impossible and The Witcher.

However, after having been MIA as the cinematic version of Superman for nearly half a decade, Cavill made his return to the DCU in a very surprising way. While the post-credits scene leaked online prior to the film's release in theaters across the whole world, Cavill appeared as the DC icon in Dwayne Johnson's Black Adam, where Superman and the antihero had a brief but pivotal encounter. However, it's just the beginning for Cavill as a Man of Steel 2 sequel is reportedly in the works, which hasn't been confirmed yet by Warner Bros. Discovery or DC Studios, especially as Gunn and Peter Safran have begun their new gigs.

In a new interview with IGN, Cavill was asked about the launch of DC Studios and if he has met with Gunn at this point. As of right now, Cavill hasn't had any meetings with the newly appointed DC Studios bosses, but he is excited to start conversations about Superman and his future in the DCU. While speaking on the filmmaker's talents, Cavill shared the following about eventually meeting with Gunn:

"I have not met James yet. I'm looking very forward to meeting him. He's clearly a very, very talented man, and I cannot wait to sit down and have long, long conversations with him. I'm very excited about him being there and very excited about any future opportunities we can work together."

What James Gunn Could Do For Superman

With Gunn and Safran's DC Studios leadership, time will tell how they will affect Superman's cinematic future. However, it's worth remembering that when they were appointed the heads of the newly formed division, Superman was specifically a character they name-dropped as being one of the great heroes to focus on. Having leaders that are in favor of Superman and want to prioritize him for the DCU is one of the best things they could do for the character, especially given how DC Films' Walter Hamada had kept him on the sidelines for many years.

It also helps Cavill to have not just Gunn and Safran in his corner but also a bigger reception to his version of Superman, which became evident through his Black Adam cameo. Needless to say, it's a strong step forward in the right direction for the DCU to finally have Superman back on a regular basis. Whether that is in Man of Steel 2, Black Adam 2, or other DCU movies, having the hero that began the franchise to begin with, will hopefully bring Warner Bros. Discovery's cinematic universe to a point that many have been wishing for several years. Ideally, it won't be too long until Gunn and DC Studios lay out what's in store for Cavill's Superman in the coming years.
