It looks like Superman may have begun the equivalent of the Infinity Gauntlet saga for the DC Universe. After plundering a cosmic artifact, the Man of Steel is now coming to terms with what his actions may have done.

Superman's time on Warworld was a harrowing experience, and it forced the hero to confront some very real issues. After attempting to liberate the planet from the clutches of Mongul, Superman and his allies in the Authority found themselves enslaved to fight for Mongul's amusement. However, Superman heard of a power that could possibly turn the tide. Nestled in the heart of Warworld's Necropolis was something known as the Fire of Olgrun, one of seven aspects of an ancient and powerful deity. Clark retrieved the Fire, only to use it to resurrect Osul-Ra, a young Phaelosian slave who now lives on Earth with his sister, Otho-Ra.

However, Superman's decision to retrieve and use the Fire of Olrun may have some drastic consequences for his allies and the rest of the DC Universe. In Action Comics #1048 by Phillip Kennedy Johnson, Mike Perkins, and David Lapham, Lois Lane attempt to help the Phaelosian siblings acclimate to earth with a day at the zoo. Superman’s old ally Bibbo even tags along to lift the children’s spirits. However, the fun doesn’t last as the day is interrupted by a swath of New Gods. Orion, Kalibak, DeSaad, and Metron have all come in search of Olgrun’s heir, aka the one possessing the Fire of Olgrun. After chewing out Superman for his meddling with an aspect of an ancient god, the New Gods quickly realize that Osul-Ra is the Fire's bearer and attempt to abduct him. Clark, however, isn't letting Osul-Ra go without a fight.

Superman Has Accidentally Discovered DC's Infinity Gems

Superman Aspects of Olgrun DC Comics

When Superman first heard of the Aspects of Olgrun, they sounded suspiciously similar to the Infinity Stones (or Gems) of the Marvel Universe. Both are extremely powerful items that each have their own unique ability on a cosmic scale. Both the Aspects and the Stones are also scattered throughout the universe to keep them from being collected by unworthy possessors. Unlike the Infinity Stones, the Aspects of Olgrun are a very new addition to comic book lore. Now that Superman has uncovered and used one, he may have started a serious chain of events.

In the same way that the cosmic heroes of Marvel feared Thanos gathering the Infinity Gems, nothing seems to terrify the New Gods more than the Aspects of Olgrun being claimed by new owners. For eons, the Aspects were at peace, but Clark’s actions have disturbed that, and it’s possible others may soon come into play. Will any one person attempt to claim all seven Aspects of Olgrun? Or will Olgrun himself return to claim his Fire? Anything could happen now that Superman has accidentally started an Infinity Gauntlet-style power struggle.
