Warning: SPOILERS for Superman #18

Superman's identity has been kept a secret to the public for the most part during the iconic DC character's storied history. However, in Superman #18, the titular hero reveals his true self to the entire world - unfortunately, the decision might have deadly implications.

In a preview for Superman #19, the Daily Planet is shown completely destroyed following the reveal. The Daily Planet globe is completely smashed and there's a significant amount of rubble surrounding it. So, what happened? Well, when Superman was making his big announcement to the planet that he was Clark Kent and that intends on staying as a journalist at the Daily Planet, bad guys were watching. The Legion of Doom is shown to be listening to the announcement with an enraged Lex Luthor contemplating his next move.

Considering Superman made his non-superhero workplace be known, Luthor and the Legion might try to get the jump on his reveal and make Clark's work life as miserable as possible. Taking out the Daily Planet would certainly throw a wrench in Superman's day to day life.

Lex Luthor Superman Reveal

Superman made the decision to keep his non-heroic identity and to continue to work as a journalist, despite the world knowing who he really is. While it's commendable Superman wants to keep his job and the Clark Kent persona, he has to know he's putting everyone at the Daily Planet in immediate danger by continuing to work there like nothing's changed. If what we've gleaned from the preview image is true and the Daily Planet has fallen, Superman needs to take a look in the mirror and realize perhaps keeping his Clark Kent persona isn't the best decision.

It was a bold move for writer Brian Michael Bendis to reveal Superman's alter ego and it's clear there are going to be serious ramifications from that decision. If Clark is expecting to keep the balance from both of his personas, it seems he's sadly mistaken. There are repercussions to his decision that will impact his co-workers both on the Justice League and at the Daily Planet - unfortunately, the latter aren't prepared to deal with supervillains who want to make Clark and Superman's new public life Hell.
