Superman is known for having a wide array of superpowers to pull from, but in The Superman Family #196Clark Kent redefined the meaning of the popular Bee Gees' tune "Staying Alive" by using his powers in an unexpected way. Believe it or not, the Man of Steel once saved the day with his killer dance moves.

The Superman Family was a DC comic book series published from 1974 to 1982. The series focused on short stories revolving around side characters from Superman's life such as Lois Lane or Superboy. The comic provided a deeper exploration of the world that Clark Kent lived in by providing a deeper context for the rest of his cast. Each issue contained numerous short tales, each with a focus on a different character.

Superman Family #196 featured a story titled Super-Disco Fever, and, as the title implies, things got a bit groovy in this one. After finishing up his 6 pm news broadcast as anchorman for WGBS, Clark Kent quickly slides off, thinking to himself a plan for escape, but who is he hiding from? The answer is soon revealed as he turns a corner to a crowd of screaming fans; the Clark Kent Fan Club. Clark darts off and puts his clever disguise skills to use, borrowing a coworkers blazer in a similar fashion to thinking glasses cover a whole identity. Unfortunately for him, it seems his coworker was in on the plan and had a tracker put in the jacket. Eventually, the fan club catches Clark and bring him to a massive Clark Kent Fan Club dance. When a disco dancing contest breaks out, Clark notices a strange man entering the basement. Using his handy x-ray vision, Clark watches as the man arms a bomb under the dance floor. Unable to escape the crowd (despite his super-speed), Clark sees only one possible way to save the day... and dances like he's never danced before.

By combining his super strength with some sick dance moves, Clark is able to set up a series of vibrations through the floor that ultimately disarm the bomb. Despite having never gotten down dancing to some sweet disco tunes before, Clark ends up not only saving everyone's lives but winning the dance contest as well. Sadly, the celebration of his victory is short-lived as word spreads throughout the party that John Travolta is at another disco club right down the road.

While this definitely ranks as one of Superman's more goofy one-off adventures, it is definitely a nice change of pace to see him have to defeat the bad guy while still acting as Clark Kent. With such large scale powers, it is not always easy to put him in situations where he won't obviously come out on top in the blink of an eye, but here Superman's personal life is used as the drama that makes what should be a simple criminal defeat into a more elaborate and unique takedown.
