Black Adam actor Dwayne Johnson reveals the main differences between his superhero and Superman. After years of waiting, the actor is finally set to debut in the DCEU as its newest superhero. The former WWE superstar has long been attached to play the anti-hero with the project getting stuck in production limbo. But after several months in production, it has finally wrapped filming, with only about a year before the project hits theaters.

It's still a considerable wait to see what Johnson and Black Adam bring into the DCEU. Originally supposed to debut in David F. Sandberg's Shazam!, Warner Bros. changed plans and decided that it was for the best to debut the quasi-villain in his own film, especially with an A-lister in the role. Jaume Collet-Serra helmed the standalone project after directing Disney's Jungle Cruise which Johnson co-headlines with Emily Blunt and Black Adam is due to release at the end of July 2022. Not much is known regarding the plot specifics of the movie, but before the character even debuts on the big screen, he's already drawing comparisons with Superman since they have more or less similar capabilities.

When asked about it in a recent interview with THR as he does press rounds for Jungle Cruise, Johnson has his answer ready. The actor says that aside from having the same skill set as the Man of Steel, Black Adam has one advantage — he is able to wield magic. He also cites their difference in principles; while Clark Kent is typically opposed to killing villains, Black Adam doesn't have any problem with it.

“Black Adam has all the powers of Superman, but the difference is he is blessed with magic. And also, by a code of ethics in the world of superheroes, they don’t kill the bad guys, but Black Adam does."

Aside from the titular character, Black Adam will also see the arrival of the Justice Society of America with Hawkman (Aldis Hodge), Doctor Fate (Pierce Brosnan), Cyclone (Quintessa Swindell), and Atom Smasher (Noah Centineo) rounding up the team. Considering the scarcity of information about the film's narrative, it's difficult to say when Black Adam might personally encounter Superman — if that's ever in the DCEU cards at all. What's more likely is the inevitable face-off between the upcoming hero and Shazam (Zachary Levi). A year after Black Adam debuts, Sandberg's sequel, Shazam: Fury of the Gods will hit theaters. The project is currently in production, but there hasn't been any concrete indication that Johnson is somehow involved in it for the much-anticipated crossover.

If Johnson's DC hero ever encounters Superman in the DCEU after debuting in Black Adam, it's curious how that face-off might look like. As it is, Henry Cavill's future in the franchise is still in limbo right now. After appearing in Zack Snyder's Justice League, it's uncertain where else the character might pop up, with Man of Steel 2 still unconfirmed despite campaigns for Warner Bros. to greenlight it. Instead, there's a reboot on the horizon, although it's possible that it might not be set in the same continuity. Perhaps, given their similarities in powers, Black Adam can fill the void Superman's absence has created.
