Warning! Spoilers for Justice League: Last Ride #1 by DC Comics below.

In a DC Universe where the Justice League has become fractured, Superman blames Batman for the death of one of its greatest heroes: Martian Manhunter. In the new Justice League: Last Ride series, the League is forced to reassemble after it nearly was torn apart. When Superman tries to talk with Batman about how they should handle the mission which brought them back together, he eventually tells the Dark Knight how he really feels.

Justice League: Last Ride #1 by Chip Zdarsky, Miguel Mendcona, Enrica Angiolini, and Andworld Design, takes readers to a timeline where the Justice League is broken by tragedy. However, when the team reconvenes at the Justice League Watchtower after Green Lantern John Stewart alerts them to a new emergency, things are awkward immediately for the Trinity. The Flash wonders if Batman or Superman will show, and Wonder Woman tells him they need to put aside their "childish differences." When Kal-El arrives, he says there's "nothing childish about our differences."

The conflict begins as soon as everyone takes a seat, as Superman tells Batman "this isn't like old times," and that he's not allowed to waltz into the Watchtower and take the lead on the mission. As Wonder Woman separates them and tells them she "didn't come here to babysit grown men," the League are informed why they were called. The Green Lantern Corps has captured Lobo - the most wanted man in the universe, who killed the New Gods. Hal Jordan says they need the League to watch over him - and suggests the Moon become the new station for the Corps. Batman immediately says no, but when Superman confronts him in the Batcave, the real conflict is revealed.

Batman Superman Justice League Last Ride

Superman tells him the Lanterns idea near Earth would be great, especially with the League's current situation. But, after saying he can't be everywhere, Batman responds, "believe I know." Superman becomes upset and punches Batman's giant penny in the Batcave. He says he tried his best to save J'onn, while suggesting Batman was the one who sent their friend to death. Superman pleads to stop the fighting and asks the Caped Crusader to put aside his stubbornness to help the Corps. The message is received as Batman changes his tune and calls for a mission to Apokolips.

While the comic doesn't reveal the cause of Martian Manhunter's death, Superman clearly blames Batman for the incident. Although, Batman's direction to the Martian was seemingly only made because Superman couldn't make a decision - which haunts Kal-El. Thankfully, Batman and Superman have seemingly put their feud on hold in order to help the Green Lantern Corps and find a new hiding spot for Lobo. Readers will have to wait and see if the comic reveals what happened to Martian Manhunter and whether the two iconic DC heroes' friendship is permanently broken. Justice League: Last Ride #1 is in stores now.
