Superman & Lois season 3 is set to bring Clark Kent back to his reporter roots, and that’s a great sign for the show. From the onset of the series, Superman & Lois has done a multitude of things to change around a lot of the hallmarks of the Superman mythos, specifically regarding Clark’s life. For example, in addition to taking him and his family out of Metropolis and putting them in Smallville, Clark has spent the show working as the football coach at Jordan and Jonathan’s school as opposed to being a journalist, as he’s known to be in most Superman stories.

The change in Clark’s career was a big one for Superman & Lois, but it’s one that’s set to be changed for season 3. According to a recent press release, Superman & Lois season 3 will see Clark working together with Lois at the Smallville Gazette, which, up until now, was only Lois’ place of work (via TV Line). This change in the story works to bring Clark back to his roots as a reporter, and that’s good for the show.

More Opportunities For Lois & Clark On Screen Together

One of the most important things being gained from Superman & Lois making Clark a reporter again is that it allows for more opportunities for Lois and Clark to be on screen together. One of the highlights of Superman & Lois has always been how the strength of Lois and Clark’s relationship, especially compared to other couples in The CW's Arrowverse and Arrow verse-adjacent shows. Every scene in which they get to act like a couple excellently highlights the bond they have with each other, but with the two of them often being separated due to their different careers and Clark’s Superman activities, there isn’t always a lot of time for that to be explored.

Naturally, all of that can be fixed by Clark becoming a reporter again in season 3. With Lois and Clark now working in the same field again, Superman & Lois will no longer have to deal with repeatedly splitting them apart as it did in previous seasons since now there’s a perfect excuse for them to be around each other all the time. The change does run the risk of having Superman overshadow Lois in season 3, but the comics and other Superman media have typically maintained Lois’ agency when they’re both reporters, so there’s no reason to think it wouldn’t be the same for Superman & Lois.

Superman Can Keep Up With Events The Way He Did In The Comics

Another benefit of Clark becoming a reporter again in Superman & Lois is that the show can bring back Superman’s classic way of keeping up with current events. In the early years of the Superman franchise, Clark’s main reasoning for working at the Daily Planet was that he thought that working at a major news outlet would make it easier for him to learn about crises for Superman to stop as soon as they happen. As Clark’s powers and resources became more developed over the years, however, this aspect stopped being brought up in more modern Superman stories, Superman & Lois, included.

Superman & Lois might not have used that classic element of DC Comics' Superman before, but with Clark set to be a reporter again, there’s a perfect chance for the show to start using it. Granted, the show is another Superman story where Clark’s power and resources don’t necessitate that, but it would still be a fun way of fleshing out the show’s change to its status quo that would be perfectly in line with the lighthearted tone of the show. Regardless, with Superman & Lois set to return on March 14, 2023, it won’t take that long to see what the show plans on doing with Clark’s new lifestyle.
