In the wake of Skaar's MCU debut during the first season of She-Hulk, longtime comic book fans are ecstatic over the possibility of more superhero children making their live-action debuts. The history of comics is filled with superhero offspring, and they don't always follow in their parent's footsteps when it comes to powers.

From ultra-powerful mutants like Cable to unique speedsters like Jai West, many of the most famous superhero kiddos have their own powers that set them apart from their parents. While almost every offspring has some sort of twist on their parent's abilities, some super children had unique powers that completely surprised readers.

Malcolm Dragon

Malcolm Dragon saves a young woman in Image Comics

Blessed with his father's signature green skin and head fin, Malcolm Dragon was the only child of Savage Dragon and Rapture. Though his father's DNA seemed dominant, it was revealed that young Malcolm had the best of both worlds when he inherited his mother's telekinetic electrical powers.

On the surface, there is nothing shocking about Malcolm Dragon's combo of powers, but it is how the powers interact that set him apart from his parents. Combining his father's brute strength with his mother's electrical charge, Malcolm's super-powered punches also come with a burst of electricity that adds an extra jolt that neither of his parents possessed.

Obsidian

Obsidian looks on sternly from DC Comics

Making his debut during the Golden Age of Comics, the original Green Lantern has been cleverly worked back into the DC timeline, including the introduction of his son Obsidian. Instead of inheriting his father's powers, Todd Rice tapped into a much darker energy that allowed him to use the power of the Shadowlands to dispatch his foes.

His sister Jade received a set of powers that were more in line with Alan Scott's, but Obsidian's skills are a darker mirror to his superhero father's. Aside from the typical increased durability that most supers have, Obsidian's connection to the Shadowland allows him to assume a shadowy aspect in which he can change his size and even possess others.

Morana Simmons

Even though Spawn is one of the scariest superheroes in comics, his daughter fell down a much darker path than even her Hellspawn father. Morana Simmons was originally thought to have died as a result of a miscarriage, but her unborn soul was transported to Hell where it was transformed into Hellspawn.

Spawn's anti-hero ways might put him at odds with the usual superhero code of ethics, but his daughter Morana was resurrected as an absolute villain. Though she shares the same abilities as her father, it is Morana's dark intentions that make her the most powerful Hellspawn of all.

Offspring

Offspring stretches into action in DC comics

The lazily named character Offspring is a rare example of a superhero progeny that wasn't birthed with powers, and instead, he followed in the footsteps of Plastic Man by gaining them through scientific means. Drinking a diluted version of the acid that gave his father powers, Offspring was made more powerful because he had greater control.

Being able to control his powers has made Offspring a better version of his father, and the manifestation of his abilities has included shapeshifting and an even greater elasticity. On top of the usual plastic aspect, Offspring has also shown that he can resist mid-level psychic attacks, and that is most likely due to his improved skills in contrast to the haphazard way that the original Plastic Man gained his powers.

Skaar

Skaar makes his first appearance in Marvel Comics.

Over the long and complicated history of Incredible Hulk comics, many characters have inherited the Hulk's gamma powers, but his son Skaar is a truly unique specimen. Born on the planet Sakaar, the offspring of Hulk and Caiera not only inherited his father's emerald rage but a mystical connection to the planet that he has often used to his advantage.

When not smashing his way through foes with ease, Skaar's "Old Power" allows him to control the stone of the planet as well as manipulate lava flows. Add in his ability to transform into rock, and Skaar's combination of skills makes him one of the most powerful Hulk relatives in the Marvel Universe.

Jai West

Jai West defends his mother in DC Comics

Wally West's twin children had a rough start, but a series of resurrections brought them back to live the superhero life they were destined for. While his daughter Iris' powers more closely matched the speedster's classic skill set, his son Jai channeled the speed force in a totally different way.

Lacking the zooming quickness of his father and sister, Jai instead gained the ability to funnel the force into his muscles which grant him superior strength temporarily. Still very young in the comic continuity, there is no telling how Jai's connection to the speed force will manifest itself as he grows older and becomes a full-time superhero like his father.

Franklin Richards

Franklin Richards in a Fantastic Four uniform in Marvel Comics

The power couple of The Fantastic Four were some of the first characters to become parents in the Marvel Comics timeline when their son Franklin debuted in the 1960s. Sue and Reed's son didn't inherit any of his parent's abilities and instead was gifted with the unbelievable power to warp reality itself.

Though each reboot changes a little of Franklin's skill set, he is nevertheless a very powerful character who actually became a mutant through will alone. The only thing that keeps Franklin in check is the fact that his powers can be permanently expended, but there is no doubt that his powers far exceed those of his superhero parents.

Cable

Cable scowls while looking on in Marvel Comics

Nathan Summers is perhaps one of the most complicated superhero offspring of all time, and his journey to becoming Cable is a twisting tale indeed. Born of Scott Summers and Madelyne Pryor, Nathan Summers was infected with a techno virus and sent to the future where he assumed the warrior moniker of Cable.

Getting none of his father's abilities, Cable instead latched onto the Jean Grey half of his DNA and became one of the top telepathic mutants in the Marvel Universe. With psychic abilities that far exceeded even Grey's, Cable could use his telepathic abilities to control the minds of others and also manifest them into physical attacks at will. Though never fully confirmed, it has also been hinted that his psychic powers allow him to time travel as well.

Jon Kent

Superhero offspring often have big shoes to fill, and the son of Superman Jon Kent, perhaps has the biggest to fill of all. The only child of Superman and Lois Lane, Jon Kent possesses all of his father's Kryptonian abilities, but might be even more powerful as he comes to learn his skills.

Just when readers thought they had seen every possible Kryptonian skill, Jon Kent once accidentally emitted a radiation blast that mimicked the effects of a nuclear bomb. DC's clever handling of the character as of late has left the door open for a wealth of new opportunities, and additional unexpected powers are most likely on the way for the son of Superman.

Legion

Legion poses with two birds on his shoulder from Marvel Comics

Charles Xavier is one of the most powerful mutants in the Marvel Universe, and his son David Haller is somehow even more powerful than his father. Better known as Legion, Haller is an omega level mutant who possesses an unimaginable amount of power, but suffers from severe mental health issues including dissociative identity disorder.

With each fractured personality manifesting its own powers, Legion's skills are seemingly endless, and some of his abilities include reality warping. Certainly more of an anti-hero than his straight-laced father, Legion is ironically one of the few young mutants that Xavier couldn't reach.
