Supergirl began its flight on CBS in 2015 but was ultimately moved to the CW Network for a second season, and has remained on the network renown for its plethora of DC Comics shows. Since the series began, there have been several constants: themes of compassion, social conscience, and truth, after all, Supergirl (like her cousin) is a symbol of American ideals but, like all superhero shows, Supergirl requires at least a modicum of focus on costumes.

And although the superhero costume is certainly an important aspect of the show (who doesn't get chills when Kara gets an inspiring moment in the suit?), an important aspect of keeping a secret identity is keeping up appearances, which Kara manages effortlessly. Below, we list Kara Danvers’ five best and worst outfits worn on the show.

Best: Pale Pink Dress

When Barry Allen and Iris West went to tie the knot, it was a multiverse affair and another crossover event for the always evolving Arrowverse. Naturally, when it came to a guest list, the Scarlet Speedster had to invite his fellow bestie in singing and crime-fighting, the Girl of Steel.

Kara wowed in “The Crisis of Earth-X” both with her incredible singing prowess and her fashion sense. The elegant pale gold embroidered dress perfectly accentuates Kara's long locks, without drawing too much attention to Kara and stealing away any focus from the bride-to-be, Iris West.

Worst: Blue Blazer and Button-Up

Even Supergirl has her bad wardrobe days, and this is definitely one of them. Kara has many staples in her wardrobe and sleeker approaches to primarily male fashion trends are one of the most prominent ones. And for the most part, it works.

Here, it doesn't. There's no fun pop of color (compare to James’ snazzy lavender button-up and deep purple tie), no cute prints. This is a very dull look for Kara, it lacks any of her charming personality, and is extremely monotonous.

Best: The Checkered Blouse

Kara amd Alex Danvers on Supergirl

When Alex broke off her engagement with Maggie Sawyer, Kara knew just the thing to cheer her sister up: returning to their childhood home of Midvale.

After a trip down memory lane and some heart to hearts, Kara and Alex prepared for the drive back to Central City, in style. Kara rocks this nifty vintage farm girl look as she and Alex says goodbye to their mother. What truly brings together this look is the accessories Kara pairs with it: a cute scarf and a stylish pair of shades. Oh cute outfit, we hardly knew ya!

Worst: Elseworlds’ Casual Chic

Last year's “Elseworlds” crossover event meant that Kara had to lay low for a while, which meant we got to take a trip back to Smallville (and get a blast from the past with the iconic theme song from Smallville.)

However, this casual look is strangely mismatched. Blue and brown can definitely be a good look together, but what truly throws off the entire look is Kara's shoes. They blend in almost totally with the shade of her trousers, and almost pulling the color-blocked outfit together, but then we're given a stark contrast with fire hydrant red shoelaces which completely throws the entire look off-balance.

Best: Red Kryptonite Kara

Okay, so maybe Kara did a few morally questionable things under the effects of the Red Kryptonite, but her fashion sense never wavered. In fact, the Red Kryptonite seemed to unlock a portion of her closet never seen before.

Kara rocked this sleeveless turtleneck into Catco Media and paired it with a geometric patterned skirt that was not only an inspired decision but an excellent combination. The shirt does well to highlight Kara's arms, and the dark shades certainly emphasize Kara's glasses. While we could definitely do without seeing Dark! Kara again, some darker shades would be a welcome change for her wardrobe.

Worst: The Printed Dress

There isn't anything wrong per se with this printed dress (she's definitely legions ahead of Brainy in the fashion department in this same scene), and it's hard to find clothes that Kara doesn't look good in.

But we're ranking this amongst the worst because the style of the dress simply doesn't match what we know of Kara's style. Sure, her style has evolved and matured, but this dress doesn't feel like it belongs in her age group and the style and print don't represent Kara's personality very well.

Best: Cream of the Crop

In the season two premiere, Kara is facing several big decisions: should she continue her relationship with James, what career is she going to choose? Can she juggle love, career, and superheroing all at once?

It may take Kara a while to figure out where she wants to go in life, but her sense of style never wavers. This cream and white jumper and skirt combination is one of our favorites of this list, and we simply can't stop staring at this fabulously chic and professional look.

Worst: Mismatched Combination

We get it, when you're home chilling with a box of pizza or two, you're going to go with the comfiest pieces in your closet. And this outfit looks very cozy, but it's also all over the place.

It's a clash of patterns, with the sweater having multiple lined patterns that don't match the stripes on Kara's shirt, and the colors are completely off balance: there are bright yellows and pinks in the sweater that does nothing to compliment Kara's button-up.

Best: The Tweed Jacket

Kara has never looked more professional than when she wore this snazzy blazer tweed blazer. It's unusual to find outfits where Kara wears a blazer as opposed to a cardigan (that's usually used to cover up her figure when she wears dresses), and we're glad for the shake-up.

The jacket bounces off perfectly against Kara's black too, and the colors in the outfit really bring attention to Kara's hair and glasses — which makes sense, as Kara is maturing professionally and is now a journalist rather than Cat Grant's meek assistant: she has to command some attention to herself. And that's exactly what this look does.

Worst: Taupe Dress

Supergirl Arrowverse

In the more recent seasons of Supergirl, the costuming department has made an effort to mature Kara's outfits, styling her in beautiful dresses, often with boat collars, and not hiding her figure with frumpy sweaters. It's a beautiful evolution and combined with Kara's cute new fringe, it really pulls together the image that Kara has grown into a self-assured young woman.

However, we're not sure taupe was a good color for this particular look. Compared to Alex in the same scene, Kara blends into her surroundings. She doesn't command much presence because of the muted look, which isn't a great thing for an investigative journalist. That said, this new style looks amazing on Kara and we can't wait to see where her style goes next.
