Supergirl is known for its well-developed characters and their important personal relationships. Unlike some other mainstream superheroes, Supergirl (human name Kara Danvers) relies heavily on those around her, and her friends and family are as integral to her story as Kara herself. This week's episode saw some major development in Kara's key relationship with Lena Luthor, who may or may not be using their close connection for nefarious gains. The episode also ended with the introduction of Mr. Mxyzptlk (Peter Gadiot), who suddenly appeared in Kara's apartment and declared his love for her.

This declaration came much to the chagrin of Mon-El (Chris Wood), Kara's flavor of the week, as the two were sharing a moment before Mxyzptlk's interruption. An extended trailer for the episode reveals that Mon-El will face off against Mxyzptlk, a trickster imp who uses Kara's romantic rejection as an excuse to wreak havoc on National City. Though Kara thinks Mxyzptlk can be reasoned with, Mon-El has seen creatures like him on Daxam and knows how dangerous they can be. Meanwhile, Winn (Jeremy Jordan) sees romantic success with a blonde mystery woman.

If you're still looking for visual clues to help you piece together next week's episode, we've got you covered. Earlier today, TVLine released a series of stills from "Mr. & Mrs. Mxyzptlk" that show Kara in a precarious wedding scenario with Mr. Mxyzptlk, Supergirl ready to leap into action, and Maggie and Alex celebrating Valentine's Day. With 'Mr. & Mrs. Mxyzptlk' acting as Supergirl's Valentine's Day episode, it makes sense that there's a heavy focus on romance. Kara's love life continues to be characteristically rocky, as our hero dealt with several short-lived romances with her friends Winn and James, and this Mon-El tryst isn't looking much more promising -- especially with an intergalactic imp getting in the way. Meanwhile, however, it looks like Alex and Maggie are in for a lovely holiday, complete with roses and champagne. Even unlucky-in-love Winn meets someone this episode, though it's unclear where their romance is headed.

All in all, this looks like a fun and heartwarming episode which is sure to provide some much-needed comic relief after the intensity of 'Luthors'. It will be especially wonderful to see Alex and Maggie's first Valentine's Day together, as they are one of the show's most-celebrated couples. Last week's episode finally saw Alex come out to her coworkers and friends, yet another one of the show's thoughtful and realistic depictions of lesbianism on-screen.

Chaotic or not, Supergirl is sure to keep bringing the fun with next week's episode. Let's just hope it's lively enough to keep us distracted after that enigmatic Lena Luthor reveal.
