The first season of Supergirl debuted on CBS last fall and followed Kara Danvers (Melissa Benoist) as she attempted to juggle the double life of an assistant and a superhero after she revealed her Kryptonian powers to the world. However, by the time she became Supergirl, her cousin had already donned the persona of Superman. Now, with Supergirl season 2 in production, set to air on The CW this fall, a number of changes are in store for the Girl of Steel - not the least of which is the official introduction of Clark Kent a.k.a. Superman, to be played by Teen Wolf's Tyler Hoechlin.
The actor has already spoken about what it's like to step into the shoes of the Man of Steel, particularly the task of bringing such an iconic character to life, and we recently received our first look at Hoechlin as Superman alongside Benoist's Supergirl. Now, behind-the-scenes photos and videos of Supergirl offer a look at Hoechlin's Superman in action.
CBM rounded up photos of Hoechlin in costume as Superman on the set of Supergirl in Vancouver, Canada. Additionally, a set video depicts the actor shooting a scene of what appears to be Superman taking off. Check out the photos and video below.

Of course, the set photos don't necessarily offer more detail than the official photo of Superman's costume previously released by The CW. However, it does give fans a better idea of the coloring - that is to say, it resembles the same bright colors used to make up Supergirl's costume. Just as Supergirl's threads in season 1, Superman's season 2 suit was devised by the series' costume designer Kiersten Ronning. Additionally, it seems Superman will be sporting the cape in many of the action scenes even though he was photographed without it at points.
Still, aside from the costume details gleaned from these photos, it seems the scene being filmed focuses solely on the Man of Steel - without any of the other cast members present. So far little has been revealed about how Clark will fit into season 2. In Supergirl season 1 it was established that Clark Kent was already a reporter at the Daily Planet in Metropolis, where he met James Olsen (Mehcad Brooks). Additionally, it's likely Clark has some connection to Lucy Lane (Jenna Dewan Tatum) considering he works with her sister Lois.
That said, it remains to be seen whether there's a reason for Clark's appearance in the Supergirl season 2 premiered, titled 'The Adventures of Supergirl.' When Hoechlin's casting was announced, it was confirmed he'd be appearing in the first two episodes on a visit to National City, but it's unclear whether that will be a closed arc or if there will be room for Hoechlin to return to Supergirl for future appearances as the Man of Steel. Certainly, if fans respond well to Hoechlin's turn as Superman, they'd be open to seeing him return. But, the show is, at its heart, still a series about Supergirl.
The Flash season 3 will premiere Tuesday October 4th at 8pm on The CW, Arrow season 5 will premiere in the same timeslot on Wednesday October 5th, Supergirl season 2 on Monday October 10th, and Legends of Tomorrow season 2 on Thursday October 13th.
