This article will feature spoilers from Supergirl season five, episode one “Event Horizon," so read this at your own risk in case you haven’t seen the episode.

Following the big conclusion in the season four finale; Supergirl opened up its fifth season even bigger, catching up with the teases in the finale back in May. With Lena Luthor (Katie McGrath) learning that Kara (Melissa Benoist) is the Girl of Steel to the mysterious teases of Leviathan, Event Horizon is pitting our hero against the threat of technology. From new faces, new threats, new adventures, season five has a lot coming up, including taking part in the big Crisis on Infinite Earths crossover. Then there is also the major 100th episode to look forward to later this season.

With so much going down in the season premiere, we’re breaking down the five best moments from Event Horizon. But in addition to that, we’re also looking at five new questions that were raised throughout the hour.

BEST MOMENT: Supergirl Gets Her New Suit

While the other Arrowverse shows haven’t been shy in giving their heroes new costumes throughout their seasons, Supergirl kept the same look for four seasons straight. However, season five was the time to finally give the Maid of Might a brand new look at last. As Brainy (Jesse Rath) creates her new costume, he also adds a bit of a bonus for Kara.

Rather than having to wear it underneath her regular clothes, her new suit materializes when she takes off her glasses. Not only is her upgraded look absolutely amazing, but its function will definitely make it easier and more logical from a storytelling perspective.

QUESTION: How Did Kara's Cape Get Destroyed This Easily?

Throughout her four years as the Girl of Steel, Kara’s cape has pretty much survived anything it has faced. From a vast variety of aliens with super-powers to literal Worldkillers, that cape has survived a lot. So how is it that her cape suddenly was so easy to destroy in the season premiere before facing Midnight (Jennifer Cheon Garcia)?

It feels a bit far-fetched that the previous four seasons never tore her cape this badly. We get that it had to be ruined so that it could be led to Brainy making her a new suit, but it still feels a little ridiculous. It wouldn’t have stood out as much if the cape had actually gotten damaged here and there in the last four years.

BEST MOMENT: Lost World of Krypton Experience

While the scene wasn’t long, the idea that there is a Lost World of Krypton experience is amazing. Similarly to how The Flash will one day have the famous Flash Museum, it was brilliant to see that Superman and Supergirl have a similar thing on Earth-38.

In addition to that, how has this not become a thing in real life? With Warner Bros. having studio tours available, it would be amazing if they invested in something like a “Krypton Experience” that kind of borrows from what the show did in the premiere.

QUESTION: How Much Drama Can We Expect from the J’onzz Brothers?

One of the main threats this season is going to be personal for J’onn (David Harewood), as his brother Malefic has arrived on Earth. While we don’t see Malefic reveal his true self to J’onn until the very end, it’s a powerful moment that sets up one dramatic journey for these Martians. The question is, how nasty is this going to get?

Given how much hate Malefic seems to have for J’onn, perhaps fans should be worried about what’s coming for the Martian Manhunter this season.

BEST MOMENT: Super Friends vs Midnight

While we have had many showdowns with Kara and her team, Event Horizon may have one of the all-time greatest showdowns ever with the Super Friends. Together with Martian Manhunter, Dreamer (Nicole Maines), Brainy, Guardian (Mehcad Brooks), and Alex (Chyler Leigh), Kara takes on Midnight in a really fun showdown.

It also helps that Muse’s “Supermassive Black Hole” was playing with the scene as they were literally dealing with a supermassive black hole. Just the entertainment value of this scene is a great reminder of what an incredible team Supergirl has established throughout these past few seasons.

QUESTION: What Are Andrea Rojas' Qualifications?

Julie Gonzalo makes her debut as DC Comics’ Andrea Rojas who is now the new Editor-in-Chief and owner of CatCo. While her plans for CatCo are a big discussion in itself, what exactly are her qualifications that justify her being the new Editor-in-Chief? It didn’t feel believable for someone like her who comes from the tech world to enter the realm of journalism/media, where she is making all of these demands and changes.

This is the biggest aspect that holds Event Horizon back a bit, where they introduced someone as big as her into an already packed premiere. Logistically speaking, it still feels a bit weird of her being able to have this role just because she owns CatCo. So, what exactly are her qualifications?

BEST MOMENT: Kara Tells Lena The Secret

Since season four ended, everyone has been waiting to see what would happen next between Lena and Kara. During her big Pulitzer event, Kara cracks at last and tells Lena that she is Supergirl and how difficult it has been to lie to her best friend for all of this time.

Combine every emotional scene or action moment from the past seasons and it still doesn’t feel as big as this scene did between the two women. Benoist and McGrath have both had some incredible scenes in the last few seasons, but this one is one of their all-time best.

QUESTION: Where Is Lex Luthor?

Lex Luthor in Supergirl

We all remember that major moment in the season four finale where Lena literally shot her brother Lex (Jon Cryer), who ended up dying before outing Kara as Supergirl to his sister. What followed was The Monitor (LaMonica Garrett) finding his body and doing something with it and leaving the viewers on another cliffhanger.

With Lex set to return for the Crisis on Infinite Earths crossover, the premiere still didn’t give us any hints at where the heck he is. Is he even alive in this very moment or did the Monitor just take his body and is in the process of still reviving him?

BEST MOMENT: Kara Winning a Pulitzer

A surprise for viewers was finding out that Kara had actually won a Pulitzer for her work that took down President Baker as well as revealing Lex’s actions. Following the moment after Kara told Lena her secret, Ms. Luthor proceeds to introduce Kara at the Pulitzer event.

With what ends up being an emotionally charged speech, Lena embraces Kara and whispers that they’ll always be best friends. For a single moment, everything seemed hopeful for the two best friends, but Lena’s final scene in the premiere suggests otherwise.

QUESTION: What Is Lena Luthor's Destiny?

Despite making it seem like their friendship is still intact, Lena makes it clear at the end that she intends to use Supergirl. While it does seem that Lena is now on a similar path like Lex, ultimately, what is her destiny? Will she truly follow the footsteps of Lex and Lillian (Brenda Strong) or can she be the first Luthor to be saved from the darkness?

Whatever her plans are to “fix mankind” by having Kara think they’re still friends, will that plan succeed or will the Last Daughter of Krypton discover what Lena is truly up to? No matter what's coming up, Lena’s soul will be more important than ever going forward in this season.
