New images from Supergirl season 6 tease Kara's return from the Phantom Zone. The Arrowverse fan-favorite series is now in its final season, and viewers have been waiting patiently for the second installment since the mid-season finale in May of this year. Season 6, episode 8 is the first of the final 13 episodes and is titled "Welcome Back, Kara." It's set to air on August 24, only a couple weeks after the Supergirl cast and crew celebrated wrapping season 6 the series.

So far, the current season has taken the characters, especially Kara, in new directions. She spent the bulk of the first seven episodes trapped in the dark region of space know as the Phantom Zone but was finally reunited with her friends at the end of the mid-season finale. While lost, she encountered her father, Zor-El, who she believed to be dead in the timeline before Crisis on Infinite Earths. They were able to escape together, with a Supergirl promo released in May teasing Zor-El trying to fit in on Earth.

To add to the anticipation of episode 8 coming out later this month, as with previous episodes, The CW released a series of 15 still images for viewers to sink their teeth into. Not much is known about the episode's plot, but it promises to make the most of a "return to National City" for Supergirl and Zor-El, as stated in the official synopsis. Check out all the images below.

Kara's return will mark a big switch in the season's storyline. After spending several episodes as a prisoner in the Phantom Zone, many viewers are keen to see The Girl of Steel back with her fellow heroes. However, the episode description also promises that Kara's efforts to return to her previous life will "backfire" and create "a whole new threat to National City." It is likely that these complications will set the stage for some action-packed final episodes.

While Supergirl may be coming to an end after season 6, the world of Krypton lives on through Superman & Lois, which debuted on The CW in February of this year. The spin-off series offers a further exploration of the two main characters known from Supergirl and the many Arrowverse crossovers, while also introducing their teenage sons. The new show is a smart investment from The CW, quickly capitalizing on the loyalty of Supergirl viewers who are no doubt keen to spend more time with the superhero family. It should make saying goodbye to Kara, Alex, and the other characters a little easier when the time comes.
