Supergirl season 5, episode 4, "In Plain Sight", gave James Olsen a grand send-off from the series. At the same time, the episode continued to explore the mysteries behind Kara's work rival, William Day, and Lena Luthor's secret Non Nocere Project.

The central plot of "In Plain Sight" focused on Supergirl and the heroes of National City continuing their battle with Malefic - the evil brother of the Martian Manhunter. As James took his sister Kelly (who had developed a psychic connection to Malefic) into hiding, the DEO began reassembling their arsenal of anti-Martian weapons and technology. This proved problematic, as Malefic was able to mentally take control of several DEO agents, including Alex Danvers, and turn them against his brother.

Meanwhile, James and Kelly returned to their hometown of Calvintown, discovering that it had fallen upon hard times, languishing under the thumb of a corrupt local government. This spurred James to buy the local newspaper, hoping that he could be the hero the city needed as both a publisher and a vigilante. Yet while the episode made it clear what James Olsen had planned for his future, it still raised many questions.

4. Who Is Simon Kirby?

Supergirl Jimmy Olsen and Simon Kirby

When Kelly and James first returned to their aunt's old house in Calvintown, they found it had become home to a group of squatting teenagers. One of the teens was a boy named Simon Kirby, who had been left homeless after his mother was sentenced to 10 years in prison for petty theft. Simon's story alerted James to the corruption of the local government in supporting a for-profit prison and prompted his decision to return to Calvintown, buying the local newspaper and offering Simon a job working for him.

The name Simon Kirby in Supergirl season 5, episode 4 is a tribute to two of American comics' greatest creators - Joe Simon and Jack Kirby. While best known today for their creation of Captain America, the two were also responsible for creating the Guardian, whose identity James Olsen took up in the reality of Supergirl. Simon also seems to be a modern take on the Guardian's sidekicks, The Newsboy Legion - a group of homeless newsies, who assisted the Guardian in protecting their neighborhood.

3. Who Is The Wind-Controlling Assassin?

Supergirl Wind-Controlling Assassin

As Kara was searching the apartment of a woman who died suddenly after a meeting with William Day, she was assaulted by a metahuman with wind-control powers, who had posed as a delivery woman. The unnamed meta in Supergirl season 5, episode 4 proved powerful enough to nearly suffocate the superheroine in seconds and only a well-timed table throw saved Kara from having her breath taken away forever. Kara took the meta into custody, but nothing was said about who she was or who she was working for.

2. Can Kara Trust William Day?

Supergirl William Day in In Plain Sight

Near the end of Supergirl season 5, episode 4, Kara confronted William Day over the many lies she had discovered about his background and his connection to a number of shady characters. This pushed Day to a confession; he was still working for the London Times, but he had taken a job writing for CatCo as part of an investigative report into the illegal activities of Obsidian North and Andrea Rojas. He claimed his shady contacts were all either whistle-blowers hoping to expose the company's crimes or Interpol agents working undercover. Unfortunately, Day had no real proof of his noble intentions and no way to refute Kara's justifiable skepticism in the wake of earlier events.

1. How Can Lena Get Malefic To Work For Her?

Supergirl Lena Luthor in In Plain Sight

The final scene of Supergirl season 5, episode 4 revealed that Lena Luthor had altered the DEO's Phantom Zone projector so that it teleported Malefic into a cell in her private lab. Lena told Malefic that she wasn't his enemy and felt that they could help each other out. We know that Lena wants to study Malefic and find a way to replicate his unique mind-control powers as part of her Non Nocere Project to make humanity less selfish. It is unclear, however, what leverage Lena has over Malefic, since he wants nothing but to make his brother and everyone close to him suffer. Granting that Lena wants the same thing after being lied to by J'onn and his extended family, she isn't quite as murderous about her grudge, making any team-up between the two problematic.
