Supergirl season 5, episode 3, "Blurred Lines" united several stories with the shared theme of moral ambiguity. The subplots ran the gamut of grey areas, from the little white lies told to spare a person's feelings to taboo acts that defy an entire culture's ethics.

Having previously sought Kelly Olsen's assistance in using advanced technology to confirm his mind had been manipulated to make him forget he had a brother, J'onn turned to Nia Nul for a more natural method of working past the blocks on his mind. Together, the two psychics discovered the true origins of J'onn's brother, Malefic. More, they found a dark secret that shook J'onn to his core, as he learned several disturbing things about his family and himself.

Meanwhile, Kara investigated the mysterious death of Dr. Niles Jarrod; a story which her work rival William Day tried to warn her away from. At the same time, Kara pondered using her powers to steal old journals belonging to Lex Luthor from a military base, which Lena claimed she needed to end her reoccurring nightmares. Ironically, Lena lied to Kara and she truly needed the journals to pursue a project where she planed to reprogram the minds of the masses to make people more honest. Here are all the questions awaiting answers in the wake of Supergirl season 5, episode 3.

4. Who Is William Day Working For?

Supergirl Willam Day

The opening scene of Supergirl season 5, episode 3 showed William Day confronting famed geneticist Dr. Niles Jarrod in a club and warning him that things would go badly for him if he didn't "work with us." Dr. Jarrod dismissed Day's statement, saying that he still wasn't interested despite Day having threatened him a dozen times earlier. Precisely who is employing Day is not clear, but it seems that Leviathan (the same organization that recruited Eve Teschmacher to spy on Lex Luthor) may be the most likely suspect.

3. Who Hired The Aurafacian To Kill Dr. Jarrod?

Supergirl Aurafacian Assassin Alien Spider Woman

Shortly after Day delivered his warning, Dr. Jarrod wound up in one of the club restrooms with an attractive woman covered in tattoos of spiders and spider-webs. One of her tattoos came to life and crawled inside Dr. Jarrod's chest, killing him instantly. This woman was later revealed to be the host of an Aurafacian - a symbiotic alien creature that can take on a three-dimensional form or flatten itself into a tattoo on its host's body. Supergirl determined that Dr. Jarrod was killed by an Aruafacian after her X-Ray vision detected a spider-shaped tattoo on the inside of his heart.

This begged the question of who recruited the Aurafacian to kill Dr. Jarrod. Was it the same organization that employs William Day, seeking to make good on his earlier threats? Or was it a more sinister group, from whom William Day hoped to protect Dr. Jarrod?

2. How Did James Counter The Aurafacian's Powers?

Supergirl Guardian in Blurred Lines

Supergirl was quick to charge in once the DEO found an address for the Aurafacian's current host, Caroline O'Connor. Unfortunately, the webs generated by the Aurafacian proved strong enough to hold Kara and she was soon suffocating as the alien assassin covered her face with webbing. Thankfully, Guardian was not far behind and James Olsen was armed with a device that negated the Aurafacian's ability to generate webs. While James has some experience dealing with hostile aliens, it still seemed unreasonably lucky for Kara that James was that well prepared. It also seemed unlikely that James could change into his armor and catch up with a flying Supergirl as quickly as he did.

1. Who Killed Caroline O'Connor?

Supergirl Cloud Assassin kills Aurafacian in Blurred Lines

Kara and Alex were able to intercept the Aurafacian before it could claim its next target. As Kara wrestled with the assassin, Alex used a special gun to draw the Aurafacian out of O'Connor's body. Unfortunately, before they could interrogate O'Connor, a mysterious figure made of black smoke knocked Alex over and stabbed O'Connor the heart, fleeing before Kara could react.

Again the finger of guilt seems to point to Leviathan, which has been set up to be a major threat over the course of Supergirl season 5. It is also worth mentioning that one of Leviathan's agents in the Superman comics is the Red Cloud; a woman who can transform into a cloud of red smoke.  While the color may be different, the modus operandi in this episode is exactly the same.
