The CW's Supergirl season 4 casts Bruce Boxleitner (TRON, TRON: Legacy) as Vice President Baker, replacing previously announced cast member Brent Spiner (Independence Day, Star Trek: The Next Generation) in the role. Season 4 of Supergirl picks up after the events of season 3, which concluded with Kara Danvers being able to save her friends and defeat Reign. However, with the Legion of Super-Heroes having returned to the future - taking Winn (Jeremy Jordan) with them and leaving Brainiac 5 (Jesse Rath) in the present - Supergirl is a little short on allies.
That may prove to be a problem since the Supergirl season 3 finale also featured another version of the Girl of Steel stumbling into a Russian military base on the Siberian border. It's since been revealed by the series' showrunners that Supergirl season 4 will adapt DC's Superman: Red Son comic book storyline. As such, the Girl of Steel will need all the help she can get, which will undoubtedly arrive in some of the new characters joining the series in season 4. Now, a new cast member has joined Supergirl season 4, this time in a role that was previously revealed.

WBTV announces that TRON actor Bruce Boxleitner will join Supergirl season 4 in the role of Vice President Baker. Previously, it was revealed the role would be portrayed by Brent Spiner, but the actor left the production in order to deal with a family issue. Now Boxleitner will play VP Baker, who is described as follows: “Adept and politically minded, Vice President Baker makes for an unlikely leader, but steps up in a big way when his country needs him most.” It's unclear in which episode Boxleitner will make his first appearance as VP Baker, but his role is listed as recurring through season 4.
Boxleitner is the latest actor to join Supergirl season 4 following the casting of Sam Witwer as Agent Liberty, David Ajala as Manchester Black, April Parker Jones as Colonel Haley, Nicole Maines as Nia Nal aka. Dreamer., and Rhona Mitra as Mercy Graves. Supergirl will no doubt be facing off against both Agent Liberty and Manchester Black throughout season 4, with the former being a vigilante leading his own militia (and Kara isn't a big fan of vigilantes) and the latter being "the type of guy who brings a knife to a gunfight and still walks away the winner." Both provide interesting counterparts for Kara to deal with in season 4. Thankfully, she'll have an ally in Nia Nal, whose journey to becoming Dreamer is expected to mirror Kara's own journey back to the understanding her identity as Supergirl.
As for Boxleitner's role, between VP Baker and Colonel Haley, it seems likely the government and military will play a major role in season 4. Certainly, considering the season 3 cliffhanger that saw a different version of Kara in Russia, Supergirl has an opportunity to tap into the current political climate - something the show has never shied away from. Since Lynda Carter's President Olivia Marsdin provided a hopeful portrayal of the U.S. presidency, it's possible VP Baker may represent something different. Still, it's unclear how exactly he'll factor into the story of season 4. Until Supergirl returns this fall, fans will have to wait to see what The CW superhero has in store for the Girl of Steel.
