A set photo from Supergirl season 3 catching Alex Danvers (Chyler Leigh) and Maggie Sawyer (Floriana Lima) gazing lovingly at one other, has made its way online. The CW series is looking to ramp up its narrative with its third outing, following a jam-packed second season that introduced several new characters and ended on a bit of a cliffhanger. While it seems like there are other pressing matters to be resolved, folks behind the show will be treating fans to a little bit more story progression for the fan-favorite duo fondly dubbed known as "Sanvers."

Even given that another Kryptonite might exist somewhere on Earth without Kara (Melissa Benoist) and her team's knowledge and that the mystery of Mon-El's (Chris Wood) whereabouts has yet to be resolved, the somewhat-sidestepped relationship between Alex and Maggie will also get its time in the spotlight when Supergirl returns. Many fans were worried about the pair's fate after it was reported that Lima won't be a regular in season 3, but it seems that (even with limited appearances) the other Danvers sister's romance will continue going strong as ever, until further notice.

A behind-the-scenes photo posted by Kevin Smith, who is back directing for Supergirl season 3, catches "Sanvers" in a tender moment, with Alex and Maggie looking at each other's eyes (see the Twitter post below). It's difficult to pinpoint what is happening in the scene without any context, but it is enough to hype up fans on what the future has in store for the two love birds.

Despite being relegated to a recurring character only in Supergirl season 3, it is expected that we will see more of Maggie on the show in the episodes ahead. The National City Police Department detective's father will be appearing in season 3, so it seems that the show will be exploring a subplot that concerns Alex's fiancee and her tumultuous relationship with her family. Season 3 co-showrunner Jessica Queller has also further indicated that Lima will continue to have a substantial presence in the series.

Smith is directing the fifth episode of season 3, following his success helming a pair of Supergirl episodes back in season 2. No official details have been released as to the narrative specifics of the episode or even just its title - but with the show coming back on the air in less han two months, fans can expect to learn more on the subject, sooner rather than later.
