Although developed by the producer behind The CW's slate of DC Comics series, Supergirl debuted on CBS - to record high ratings for the Fall 2015 season. However, ratings declined over the first season and CBS opted to shift Supergirl over to The CW, where it will kick off its second season alongside DC universe series Arrow, The Flash, and Legends of Tomorrow. As a result of the move, many fans are looking forward to the crossovers - both big and musical - already teased by network execs and showrunners, as well as how the shows' writers will merge the home Earth of Kara Danvers (Melissa Benoist) with that of the other heroes.
Another highly anticipated aspect of Supergirl season 2 is the official introduction of her superpowered cousin, Clark Kent aka Superman (Tyler Hoechlin). Although the Man of Steel existed in the show's world in season 1, fans never officially met him. That changes in the season 2 premiere - though Hoechlin is only slated to appear in the first two episodes of the season. Now, the premiere synopsis further teases Superman's arrival in National City.
The CW [h/t ComicBook.com] released the synopsis for the season 2 premiere, titled 'The Adventures of Supergirl', which highlights the show's new home network, the team up of Kara and Clark, as well as the mysterious pod that crash landed on Earth in the season 1 finale. Take a look:
THE CW HAS A NEW HERO AND SHE’S BRINGING SUPERMAN WITH HER — When a new threat emerges in National City, Kara/Supergirl (Melissa Benoist) teams up with her cousin, Clark Kent/Superman (guest star Tyler Hoechlin), to stop it. Kara is thrilled to have family in town but it leaves Alex (Chyler Leigh) feeling a bit left out. Meanwhile, Hank (David Harewood) and Supergirl are stunned by the pod that came crashing to Earth. Glen Winter directed the episode with story by Greg Berlanti & Andrew Kreisberg and teleplay by Andrew Kreisberg and Jessica Queller.
Of course, while fans will surely be excited to see the synopsis further tease Supergirl and Superman teaming up to fight evil together, it doesn't necessarily offer much in the way of new information. Supergirl showrunner Andrew Kreisberg previously teased the reason behind the cousins joining forces, which seems to be the arrival of villain Metallo created by government organization Project Cadmus. Although the synopsis doesn't confirm this to be the case, it's also vague enough to leave fans guessing until the show's October premiere.
Additionally, the season 2 premiere synopsis hints at the pod that crashed on Earth in the season 1 finale, which it has since been revealed will contain Daxamite Mon-El (Chris Wood). The character is an extraterrestrial with powers similar to Superman and Supergirl, though Daxamites have a weakness for lead rather than kryptonite. However, it has yet been revealed whether Mon-El is a friend to Supergirl, or a foe.
Given the Supergirl season 2 premiere synopsis and all that has been teased for the Girl of Steel's second outing, fans are sure to be excited for the show's return. But, how all the moving pieces come together in 'The Adventures of Supergirl' remains to be seen when season 2 kicks off next month.
The Flash season 3 will premiere Tuesday, October 4th at 8pm on The CW, Arrow season 5 will premiere in the same time slot on Wednesday, October 5th, Supergirl season 2 on Monday, October 10th, andLegends of Tomorrow season 2 on Thursday, October 13th.
