New Supergirl Banner Released Ahead of Season 2 Premiere

Melissa Benoist as Supergirl

After a debut season on CBS, Supergirl is coming home to roost with her fellow DC superheroes on The CW tonight, with the Supergirl season 2 premiere airing at 8/7 c. After a crossover with The Flash in season 1 confirmed that Kara Danvers shares a multiverse with the rest of the characters in The CW's superhero family, Supergirl is set to have a busy second season that will include a four-way crossover with The Flash, Arrow and Legends of Tomorrow, as well as a musical crossover with The Flash.

That's not all, of course. One big reason to tune into tonight's episode is the debut of Tyler Hoechlin as Superman, who was kept at a distance during the first season while Supergirl found her footing. This season will also introduce Lynda Carter, star of the 1970s Wonder Woman series, as the President of the United States.

While Supergirl season 1 had its ups and downs, and didn't win over everyone, the second season could easily find a new audience and new fans on The CW, and solidify the show as a weekly must-watch for fans of the character. The CW heralded the arrival of the season 2 premiere over the weekend with a new colorful, stylized banner showing the Girl of Steel about to take flight. Check it out below:

This is definitely one of the better posters we've seen for Supergirl since the series made its debut, making the most of the classic Super-family colors of red and blue. While some of the show's writing has been criticized, star Melissa Benoist has generally been praised for her bubbly performance as Kara Danvers, making her a good match for The Flash's equally endearing lead Grant Gustin. It will be interesting to see how well she fits in with the other characters of The CW's DC universe when the big crossover takes place.

It's not uncommon for shows to struggle in their debut season, only to even out or even flourish in their second season (Arrow is one notable example). Since The CW has a generally younger viewership compared to CBS, this is Supergirl's chance to really take flight and grow its fanbase. Hopefully tonight we'll see a strong start to season 2.

The Flash season 3 airs Tuesdays at 8pm on The CW, Arrow season 5 airs Wednesdays in the same timeslot, Supergirl season 2 debuts Monday October 10, and Legends of Tomorrow season 2 on Thursday October 13.
