[SPOILERS for those not caught up on Supergirl ahead.]

-

Supergirl finally returns next week from its spring hiatus, with an episode that features DC Comics villain Biomax (Rahul Kohli), who just happens to be an old flame of Lena Luthor's. Kara will find her journalistic instincts kicking in alongside her usual desire to do the right thing as a superhero; though the conflict of interest with Lena may jeopardize their BFF status.

There's never just one problem to deal with at a time, though, and the latest trailer for Supergirl shows that the Girl of Steel has plenty of other adversaries for her and the DEO to handle in the very near future. That includes Mon-El's vindictive mother Rhea (Teri Hatcher), as well as the alien President Marsdin (Lynda Carter) was recently revealed to be.

Now there is news that Supergirl may be facing off against a well-known enemy of Superman's. Bleeding Cool is reporting that Mark Gibbon, an actor with very apropos credentials on the small screen in Smallville and on the big screen in Man of Steel, is on the set of Supergirl filming scenes as General Zod. There hasn't been official confirmation yet from The CW, but including the character definitely makes a lot of sense for the upcoming two-part finale.

[Update: It has been confirmed by The CW that the Supergirl season 2 finale will include General Zod, as played by Mark Gibbon.]

Non and Astra Supergirl

Kara has already had to deal with Kryptonian villains from the former prison Phantom Zone, including Non. The latter teamed up with Kara's Aunt Astra during Supergirl season 1, but has film and comic history as an associate of General Zod's. Zod is a strategic, intelligent, and formidable enemy who seeks vengeance on the House of El, and his reported inclusion in Supergirl could explain why Tyler Hoechlin's Superman is appearing in the season 2 finale.

Gibbon seems a good fit for the role. Along with his imposing 6'5 presence on screen, he has a long resume on genre TV, including roles on The 100, Once Upon a Time, Stargate: Atlantis, and one of Supergirl's DC TV partners on The CW, Arrow. He's also done voice work for cartoons on the Marvel side, including Fantastic Four and Iron Man. If he does appear in the Supergirl finale as Zod, there's the enticing possibility that he may be set up as a major villain in season 3 of the series.
