Warning! This post contains SPOILERS for DCeased: War of the Undead Gods #5

DCeased is one of DC Comics' darkest alternate realities, and Supergirl has made it even worse now that she's finally revealed herself for the first time to Clark Kent's Superman and his son Jon. Having been sent to New Genesis in this alternate universe rather than Earth, Kara Zor-El never made it to her cousin. Likewise, her journey was much longer and by the time she landed, New Genesis has already been infected by the corrupted Anti-Life Equation which is slowly turning the entire universe into unliving zombies. Now, this new issue sees Kara meeting Clark and Jon while carrying a truly twisted reputation in this horrifying version of the DC Universe.

In the new DCeased: War of the Undead Gods #5 from Tom Taylor and Trevor Hairsine, the heroes of Earth have developed a cure for the Anti-Life infection and want to cure as many worlds as they can. However, the Guardians of Oa have mandated that no Green Lanterns are to help with this mission, believing that the worlds are already lost in the face of the zombified Darkseid who recently became a Yellow Lantern after killing Sinestro. He also leads an army of zombified New Gods and an undead Supergirl. However, several Green Lanterns choose to ignore the Guardians and help save Kilowog's homeworld along with the rest of Earth's heroes. However, both Clark and Jon's Superman are shocked by the debut of Zombie Supergirl, having never met her before. Likewise, the issue also confirms that the sigil of the House of El has been truly perverted thanks to Kara's path of death and destruction across the universe. For countless worlds, the classic "S" now stands for the furthest thing from hope.

Zombie Supergirl Faces Clark and Jon's Supermen in DCeased

Sadly, Supergirl never had a chance to become a hero in this version of the DC Universe. From the moment she landed on New Genesis, she was overwhelmed by a horde of undead New Gods and infected as seen at the beginning of this new series. As such, Kara's become an incredibly powerful and deadly part of Darkseid's campaign to infect the entire universe, all the while corrupting the symbol of Superman by turning it into a symbol of great fear.

The rest of the issue pivots to focus on Mister Mxyzptlk who attempts to save the universe from Darkseid. However, the cosmic imp was instead infected himself, becoming corrupted and brutally murdering both Green Lantern John Stewart and Kilowog before destroying the Corps' Central Power Battery. Now, the Spectre has been unleashed to keep the Corps going while meeting the Fifth Dimensional imp in battle. As such, it seems as though Zombie Supergirl's showdown with Clark and Jon is being saved for the next issue of DCeased.

Because Earth's heroes hold the cure to the corrupted Anti-Life equation, it's possible Supergirl could be saved in future issues. After all, three Kryptonians are better than two, and the universe would stand a much better chance of surviving not to mention the eventual redemption of their symbol and all it's meant to stand for. DCeased: War of the Undead Gods #5 is on sale now from DC Comics.
