Warning! Contains a preview for DCeased: War of the Undead Gods #1

In a new preview for DCeased: War of the Undead Gods, the final chapter of DC's zombie saga sees Supergirl's origins receiving a horrifying new twist. Set in an alternate universe where the Anti-Life Equation was corrupted and resulted in the mass creation of zombies, the entire universe is now in danger of being infected now that an undead version of Darkseid has risen to plague the cosmos. However, it seems as though this first chapter will see Kara Zor-El sent to a world other than Earth in this new origin for Superman's cousin.

In the first chapter of DCeased, Darkseid's attempt to bring together both parts of the Anti-Life Equation failed, resulting in a corrupted version that created "Anti-Living" zombies as opposed to mindless slaves the Lord of Apokolips could control. While this saw several heroes becoming infected such as DC's original Trinity, some managed to escape the planet on space arks, protecting what little bit of humanity remained. However, DCeased: Dead Planet saw the survivors returning to Earth and fighting to create a cure for those corrupted by Anti-Life. As such, this second chapter would have ended on a more hopeful note had Darkseid not returned as an unliving zombie himself who attacked the cosmic New Gods.

Now, the new preview for DCeased: War of the Undead Gods #1 from Tom Taylor and Trevor Hairsine sees Supergirl being sent from the Kryptonian city of Kandor as Brainiac began his terrible work of shrinking and bottling the city before the planet's destruction. Surprisingly, the twist in the classic origin is that Kara's parents elect to send Supergirl to New Genesis rather than Earth like her cousin Kal-El was. However, Supergirl does not receive the expected warm welcome from the New Gods after years of travel through the stars. Here are the preview pages and synopsis for the upcoming issue:

  • DCEASED: WAR OF THE UNDEAD GODS #1
  • What began as a battle for Earth has become a war for the galaxy as the epic final chapter in the massive DCeased franchise is here! The emergence of a reborn, undead Darkseid in DCeased: Dead Planet sets the stage for the most devastating conflict yet for Batman, Superman, and Wonder Woman! As the Anti-Life Equation spreads into the cosmos, the survivors of Earth prepare for the coming apocalypse and realize their only hope could lie in the most powerful surviving hero from the first DCeased series... The bestselling creative team of Tom Taylor and Trevor Hairsine return for their third and final installment in War of the Undead Gods!

While things look incredibly grim for Kara Zor-El in the face of so many zombified New Gods, perhaps she'll be strong enough to hold them off and make her escape. There's also the likelihood that the heroes of Earth will arrive just in time, taking their battle to the stars in the hopes of ending Darkseid and the corrupted Anti-Life Equation once and for all. Either way, Supergirl will probably meet her demise and become corrupted if she's left to fight the undead gods on her own.

At any rate, it seems as though Supergirl's origins and journey from Krypton are happening much later in this alternate timeline than in the main DC continuity. Case in point, the Trinity is already on its second generation and Darkseid has already corrupted the gods by the time she gets to New Genesis in DCeased. However, perhaps Supergirl's come just in time to be a major hero should she survive this first zombie encounter. The full DCeased: War of the Undead Gods #1 releases August 9th.
