During the latter moments of Monday night's Supergirl, titled 'Medusa,' Barry Allen and Cisco Ramon will be traveling from Earth-1 to recruit Kara Danvers to the defense of their planet. And this will kick off the massive 'Invasion!' crossover, which will continue on The Flash and Arrow, before concluding Thursday evening on Legends of Tomorrow.
While the heroes from each show currently have their own issues, the impending threat posed by the Dominators is sure to be so great that everything else will likely take a back seat. Recent promos have teased the scale of this crossover, which will feature no shortage of high-octane action, humor, and even a look at an alternate reality during Arrow's 100th episode. And it is not only fans who are excited to see how this ambitious undertaking plays out; recent interviews suggest the casts of the four series are looking forward to how everything plays out as well.
The CW released a behind-the-scenes clip from the filming of the crossover. In the video (above), Supergirl herself, Melissa Benoist, discusses what it was like to have so many people dressed as heroes in the same room and, of course, how exciting it is to fly. Regarding having all four casts filming at once, Benoist states:
“It’s really exciting to have everyone in one place. I think we’re all really proud of our shows...It’s a weird feeling to be in a room with bunch of people wearing superhero outfits and it’s not like a costume party. It was a cool feeling. And it was basically everyone - everyone, there’s so many people.”
The video also features some of what it takes to get the Girl of Steel in the air — most notably a harness and some strong wires. As such, Benoist elaborates:
“I can’t wait for people to see it, but I also was excited to fly in front of everyone. There were a few really awkward attempts, so I did kind of fall on my butt a little bit in front of everyone. But it was a fun; it was a supportive atmosphere.”
Behind-the-scenes clips like this often reveal the attitudes of the various actors on set. And it is clear from the brief look at Grant Gustin, Carlos Valdes , and Benoist laughing on set that the actors were enjoying themselves immensely, and hopefully that translates to an enjoyable three-plus hours of television. Of course, it is hard to have as much fun as the Supergirl star, who even performs a mid air dance, undoubtedly to the joy of everyone on set.
‘Invasion!’ begins Monday, Nov. 28 with Supergirl at 8 p.m. EST on The CW, and continues with The Flash at the same time on Tuesday, Arrow on Wednesday, and Legends of Tomorrow on Thursday.
