Supergirl Producer Says Lena Luthor Doesn't Know Kara's Secret

It appears that among Kara Danvers' friends, Lena Luthor is one of the few people who doesn't know she is Supergirl. The comic book series concluded its second season last month, which provided audiences with teases for the future as well as leaving several questions unanswered about the status of certain characters, such as Chris Wood's Mon-El. Of course, these are things that we'll find out more about as the next season inches closer. There were a few things we did learn from the finale, though.

The finale episode came with the bombshell revelation that Cat Grant (Calista Flockhart) knows that Kara is Supergirl. Audiences may remember one time early on in the first season in which J'onn J'onzz, aka Martian Manhunter, shapeshifted into Supergirl in order to help Kara convince Cat that she wasn't National City's hero. It may have worked at the time, but it's something that Cat has since come to realize was just a ruse. She knows Kara is Supergirl, but what about one of Kara's other closest friends?

In the wake of the Supergirl season 2 finale, and the discovery that Cat Grant knows Kara Danvers is Supergirl, people have begun to question whether or not Lena Luthor (Katie McGrath) also knows Kara's secret. TVLine spoke to Supergirl executive producer Andrew Kreisberg recently and asked that question, to which Kreisberg responded, "At the moment, Lena definitely thinks they’re two people."

Considering how much Kara's story -- both as herself and as Supergirl -- has intertwined with Lena Luthor's, it's only a matter of time before Lena finds out the truth about her best friend. How she reacts to that news could determine whether or not she ends up becoming a villain like her famous, incarcerated brother. Until that happens, there are plenty of other things to look forward to in the upcoming season.

Supergirl's second season took the show to new heights -- and to new worlds. She partnered with the rest of the heroes of The CW's Arrowverse in defending Earth against an invasion by the Dominators, as well as defending her own corner of the Multiverse from an invasion by the Daximites. In addition to the introduction of the Luthors, audiences were also introduced to Superman, as well as one of his greatest enemies, General Zod. It's unclear, though, if Zod will reappear next season.

Even if Zod doesn't show up in season 3, the producers already have another Kryptonian villain lined up. Odette Annable has been cast as next season's villain, Reign, who was briefly teased in last season's finale episode. She is one of Krypton's four Worldkillers created by Superman's uncle and Supergirl's father, Zor-El. We'll just have to wait and see how she fits into the story when season 3 premieres this fall.

Supergirl returns for Season 3 on Monday, October 9 on The CW.
