Supergirl Casts This is Us Actress In Role With Reign Connections

While Kara Danvers is reeling from Reign's assault, Supergirl cast This is Us actress Krys Marshall as a new figure who might be able to shed some light on the supervillain. The fall finale of Supergirl left fans shaking, facing a cliffhanger that everyone's favorite Girl of Steel in a precarious predicament and Reign firmly cemented as a force unlike anything Kara has encountered before.

While Kara's been adjusting to having Mon-El return to her life engaged and recovering from the events of the Crisis on Earth-X crossover, Odette Annable's Samantha Arias has been investigating her past. After embracing her destiny, she took to the skies to battle Kara. After explaining her purpose in one of the best deliveries seen on the show this season, she declared that she was, "Truth and judgment, and death and she would reign," before dropping Kara off the roof of a skyscraper. Supergirl was taken away for emergency surgery and Samantha returned home to her daughter leaving a cliffhanger for when the show returns from its winter hiatus.

According to TVLine, the show might have some help discerning Reign's true identity thanks to Krys Marshall's new role. Best known for her role as Stacy on This is Us, Marshall will play Julia Freeman. Julia is a 20-something musician living near National City and slated to be a recurring character for season 3. While her connection to Reign is unclear, according to former producer Alex Kreisberg, she'll play a major part in the battle to come.

"Supergirl is about to face her greatest nemesis in the three years that we’ve been doing the show … so it’s going to take all the allies that she can muster to take Reign down."

The show has billed season 3 as Kara questioning her humanity, and with all of the threats she's had to face, her "greatest nemesis" comes after multiple hits on multiple fronts. Thankfully the show has teased that Kara will have multiple allies thanks to Mon-El, but those allies haven't come without a degree of personal consequences. Thanks to Marshall's Julia Freeman, the Girl of Steel will at least have one more person in her corner.

While Kara has taken the hits and kept on coming it's worth asking if Kara will emerge from her fight with Reign and the struggles she's faced wholly unscathed. Whatever happens, fans can tune into The CW next month for Supergirl's return.
