Part of the success of the Arrowverse is no doubt thanks to the fact that the creators and overseers of all the series involved are fans themselves. Not only are they all comic buffs, but they're TV nerds. Thanks to their passion, a number of genre stars from years past have regularly popped up on The CW shows. The Flash got TV's other Scarlet Speedster, John Wesley Shipp, to not only join the show as Barry's dad, but they eventually made him the universe's original Flash, Jay Garrick. Former Superman Dean Cain and Supergirl Helen Slater (who previously played Lara-El on Smallville) play Kara and Alex's parents on Supergirl. And Supergirl has also added original Wonder Woman Lynda Carter as the U.S. President.
Supergirl looks like it wants a monopoly on these genre stars, as both Teri Hatcher from Lois & Clark and Kevin Sorbo of Hercules are joining the TV series in the ongoing season 2. While we know Sorbo will be switching sides since his iconic '90s role and playing a villain, there's been no word yet on who Teri Hatcher will portaying. Given executive producer Andrew Kreisberg's admiration of the actor, however, we can assume it's a meaty part. And thanks to Sorbo himself, we may just know a bit more about them both.
ET caught up with Sorbo and asked him about his upcoming role on Supergirl. While he didn't reveal too much, the talk was still pretty illuminating:
"I leave next week! I'm heading up to Vancouver, and I'll be doing a three-show arc, and Teri Hatcher's playing my wife."
Considering Sorbo is said to be a villain, it's safe to assume that Hatcher will have a similarly nefarious role given they're married. Then again, the show could mine tension from the husband and wife duo being on opposite sides. What's even more interesting is Sorbo revealing that he nearly played Hatcher's TV spouse over 20 years ago:
"Way back in 1993, I actually booked Lois and Clark, and 24 hours later they canceled me and put in Dean Cain. But three months later, I got Hercules, so I was okay with it."
It's not hard to imagine the man that would be Hercules getting offered the role of Superman. And it's certainly interesting that after all these years, a Kryptonian story has brought Sorbo and Hatcher together. Sorbo's last quote, however, may prove to be the most intriguing. Though he doesn't offer too many specifics, it's not hard to draw a conclusion from the information:
"I'm from another planet that's an arch-rival planet of Krypton, which is now of course destroyed."
Though a prosperous (and somewhat ruthless) planet like Krypton likely has many rivals, Supergirl has only introduced one so far: Daxam. While the last part of Sorbo's quote likely refers to Krypton itself, he could mean Daxam. Both planets were destroyed, meaning there are very few Daxamites left in the universe. There is, of course, Mon-El, and the information Sorbo revealed could point to two interesting possibilities.
The first is that he and Hatcher are playing Mon-El's parents. The second, and possibly more likely, is that the pair are playing the former king and queen and blame Mon-El for letting their son perish when he escaped. That plus a vendetta against Kara for being a Kryptonian, and Sorbo and Hatcher would make for more empathetic villains. We should know more about the them soon enough, so stay tuned.
Supergirl airs Mondays at 8 p.m. on The CW.
