Since shifting from CBS to The CW for its sophomore season, Supergirl has seen a number of changes, though some may simply be an evolution from the show's freshman debut. For instance, season 2 has put a larger focus on the theme of aliens as refugees on Earth, with Kara Danvers' biggest foe being the anti-alien organization Cadmus. On a more personal level, Supergirl also highlighted Alex Danvers' coming out storyline that has been praised by critics and fans alike. On the whole, though, season 2 has emphasized the comic book superhero aspects established in season 1 over Kara's everyday life.
One such episode featuring plenty of comic book fun was the midseason premiere, 'Supergirl Lives', helmed by professional geek/writer/director Kevin Smith. Shortly before 'Supergirl Lives' debuted, it was announced Smith would return in season 2 to direct another episode, and he has since teased the production, revealing looks at what may be a Daxamite throne room and what appears to be alien technology. Now, the director offers another tease via social media.
Smith announced on Twitter that he wrapped production on his upcoming Supergirl episode Wednesday evening with a photo of the editing suite. The suite's screen has a shot in which Kara and Alex both appear - with the former suited up as the Girl of Steel. Take a look:

Details are scarce about the plot of Smith's episode, though we do know it will be the 17th in the second season. That said, with Teri Hatcher and Kevin Sorbo to debut in episode 16 - and rumors pointing to them being Daxamite royalty - there's a good chance they will factor heavily into Smith's next turn in the director's chair. As for the photo Smith posted, little can be discerned from it aside from Kara and Alex appearing, though that's unsurprising as the Danvers sisters are the backbone of the series.
In fact, in celebration of the sisters, The CW released a new poster for Supergirl season 2 that features Alex and Kara Danvers. The one-sheet includes the tagline, "Fearless runs in the family," and likely ties into the current storyline established in 'Homecoming' concerning Jeremiah Danvers' return home - and subsequent betrayal of his daughters. Take a look at the poster:
Based on the promo for the next upcoming episode of Supergirl, 'Exodus', the season will continue to focus on the Danvers family struggles as Kara must face off against Cadmus, an organization with which her adoptive father has aligned himself. Of course, if Daxamite royalty - that is, if the speculation turns out to be true - arrives on Earth, that will undoubtedly take up plenty of Kara's attention.
So, how the next run of episodes weave all these story elements together remains to be seen. But, considering the focus on Kara and Alex in both Smith's image and The CW's latest poster, fans can rest assured knowing the Danvers sisters will remain at the forefront of Supergirl.
Supergirl continues Monday, March 6 with ‘Exodus’ at 8pm on The CW.
