Supergirl Stills Offer First Look at Charles Halford as Jemm

DC Comics - Jemm, Son of Saturn

The CBS Supergirl series is about to see the addition of another great character ripped straight from the pages of DC Comics. In an upcoming episode we will see the debut of Jemm, Son of Saturn, played by Constantine regular Charles Halford. New images have surfaced that give us the first great looks at actor Halford in his alien make-up and trapped behind bars in the DEO headquarters.

Jemm is just the latest in a series of DC Comics characters that have already appeared or are set to appear on the show, including Livewire (Brit Morgan) and Red Tornado (Iddo Goldberg). It's unknown as of yet if the character will end up being a threat or ultimately an ally for Supergirl, but the new images indicate that he's less than happy to be imprisoned.

The new images, posted by CBM, are from the upcoming Supergirl episode "Human for a Day".  An earthquake is going to hit National City, and Kara (Melissa Benoist) will be temporarily without her powers (hence the episode title) while Alex (Chyler Leigh) will be trapped in the DEO with Hank (David Harewood) and alien escapee Jemm. In the new pictures from the episode we can see Kara is having issues dealing with the loss of her powers, and the imposing prosthetic make-up that gives Jemm a menacing presence.

Fans of Supergirl will recall that the issues between Hank and Alex are heating up, as Alex believes Hank may have had something to do with her father's death. The show runners are purposely keeping Hank's secret, so that viewers are constantly questioning his motivations and his allegiances.

Jemm, known also in the comics as Jemm, Son of Saturn, debuted back in 1984 in his own solo series. The powerful alien hero is a flying telepath who can fire psychokinetic energy discharges from the organic gemstone that is embedded in his forehead. We can see by the above images that this version of Jemm does maintain his trademark forehead gem, which appears to be glowing in some of the pictures. We don't know what abilities the Supergirl version will have, but if they're half as impressive as the comic book version then being trapped in the DEO headquarters with him could turn out to be rather interesting.

Jemm is being portrayed by prolific actor Charles Halford, who fans will remember from NBC's cool (but brief) Constantine series, Marvel's Agents of  S.H.I.E.L.D. and the first season of the HBO drama True Detective. This Supergirl appearance will mark the first live-action appearance of Jemm; the slightly more obscure comic book character has never before appeared in movies, television or cartoons, although he has been immortalized in plastic action figure from one time.

Supergirl airs on CBS, Mondays at 8/7c. Episode “Human for a Day” will premiere on December 7th, 2015.
