[SPOILERS for those not caught up on Supergirl ahead.]

-

Supergirl is headed to Mars in the trailer for next week's episode, "Far from the Tree". Like its counterparts Arrow and The Flash on The CW, Supergirl has always focused on the dual life of its central hero. Season 3 has seen that duality splintered dramatically for Kara, as she has tried to focus all her energy into her Supergirl role and leave behind the emotionally-wounded human side of her persona.

In this week's episode "Triggers", the bank-robbing villain Psi used her metahuman powers to freeze Kara with fearful memories of her flight from Krypton. Viewers also saw that Psi's psychic waves didn't just cause memories of terrifying times, but created images of the victims' worst "what if" fears. Kara's traumatizing trip in the pod to Earth therefore transferred into terror that she had put Mon-El into a pod that would fail and lead to his death.

After his own psionic powers were whammied by Psi, J'onn's sudden mental communication with M'gann at the end of the episode seemed suspect, but the trailer for next week promises that it was very real. In the snippets of scenes from "Far From the Tree", which you can watch above, we see that Supergirl will be joining J'onn on the very dangerous mission to the White Martian-ruled Mars.

This looks to be an exciting episode of Supergirl, giving us a glimpse of J'onn's homeworld and - as seen at the end of the preview clip - an unexpected reunion with his father. We learned earlier this month that the Martian Manhunter would be reconnecting with his origins, and finding out that he may have acclimated to Earth more than he realized. We'll also discover how successful M'gann has been at trying to find peaceful White Martians like herself.

Though not seen in the above episode preview, "Far From the Tree" will also feature Eliza (guest star Helen Slater) hosting a wedding shower for Alex and Maggie. This leads to Maggie reaching out to her estranged father (Carlos Bernard), who could be vehemently opposed to her wedding plans. Considering Kara's still raw emotions over Mon-El, J'onn's journey to the site of his most devastating loss, and Maggie facing a potentially volatile meeting with her father, next week promises a lot of emotional turmoil in addition to action-packed scenes of fighting off hostile White Martians.
