One of the biggest questions that fans had going into Supergirl when it first premiered on CBS in 2015 was how the new series may or may not address the history of Kara Danvers, her famous cousin, and their previous onscreen incarnations. Fans got their answer to that question fairly quickly, fortunately, with the series almost immediately casting multiple, iconic guest stars and actors that have been integral to the legacy of Supergirl and Superman on the small screen throughout the years. After all, who would have ever thought they'd see a live-action version of Supergirl, who's parents were played by Helen Slater and Dean Cain?
Supergirl's move from CBS to the CW in its second season hasn't slowed down the show's near-constant use of Easter eggs either. Following the introduction of Lynda Carter's female president earlier this season, the show will be completing it's Lois & Clark tribute with the addition of Teri Hatcher as a mysterious new villain. DC fans will, of course, remember Hatcher most notably for her turn as Lois Lane in Lois & Clark: The New Adventures of Superman back in the 1990s, where she played the spunky, intelligent co-lead alongside Dean Cain's Clark Kent/Superman.
During a recent press event for Supergirl (H/T CBR), executive producer Andrew Kreisberg said that there are plans for some kind of reunion between Cain and Hatcher to happen at some point in the season:
“We’d love to. There’s a plan — if we can execute the plan.”
Now, it should be noted that Kreisberg doesn't officially promise or confirm a scene featuring the two actors this season, but more that he and the other creative execs behind Supergirl at least have a plan for it. Of course, the Arrowverse writers have proven fairly adept at finding creative ways to plant Easter eggs and nods to the comic books and previous comic book adaptations in their series over the years, which makes this sound quite likely. If so, then it would just be the latest in a long line of onscreen comic book reunions fans probably thought they'd never see.
Hatcher's impending arrival on Supergirl is coming just in time as well, with Cain's Jeremiah set to make his return to the show during next week's episode, titled "Homecoming." This will be the first time that Jeremiah has been seen on Supergirl since he notably helped Kara and Mon-El (Chris Wood) escape from a Cadmus facility before choosing to stay behind himself. It doesn't look like the reunion between daughter and adoptive father will be entirely perfect either, with Mon-El already starting to develop some trust issues towards Jeremiah in the episode's promos. One can only imagine, then, what Jeremiah may or may not have to do with Hatcher's villain for the two to share a scene together.
Supergirl continues with ‘Homecoming’ on February 27 @ 8 pm on the CW.
