Supergirl: Constantine's Charles Halford to Play Alien Fugitive Jemm

Charles Halford cast as Jemma on Supergirl

[Mild SPOILERS for Supergirl ahead.]

On the Supergirl episode "Livewire", Kara (Melissa Benoist) had to do battle with a powerful alien that briefly escapes DEO imprisonment. Alex (Chyler Leigh) and Hank (David Harewood) will get their turn in upcoming installment "Human for a Day", when an earthquake traps them in the DEO with alien Jemm.

Otherwise known as the Son of Saturn, the powerful red prisoner will be played by Constantine's Charles Halford. The DC Comics version of Jemm can fly, has super strength, and is a telepath. His forehead gemstone also assists his telekinetic powers, meaning he'll be a formidable foe for Supergirl's sister and boss.

You can check out an image of Halford as Jemma on Supergirl over at CBM. "Human for a Day" will also feature Kara losing her powers, meaning she'll have to rely on her friends more than ever to tackle the earthquake aftermath. Alex is on her own to deal with a known alien as well as possible-alien Hank. Stuck in a dangerous enclosed space, Alex's new suspicion that Hank had a hand in her father's death could come to a boiling point.

While Jemm may help us learn more, executive producer Andrew Kreisberg recently told EW that Hank's true nature will be slowly revealed over time:

"We don’t want to say too much about it, because I think we had a lot of success with the way we doled out information about Tom Cavanagh’s character last year on Flash. For us, it’s so exciting to walk into every scene with him and not know is he there to help you? Or is he possibly there to harm you? That dichotomy and how it plays out is one of the most exciting, unexpected parts of the show."

Supergirl Premiere Easter Eggs

Along with character Chas on NBC's short-lived Constantine, viewers may recognize upcoming Supergirl guest star Halford from his appearance as Agent Shaw on Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.. He's also done video game voice work for Fallout 4 and Rise of the Tomb Raider and will be seen this December on the big screen in Rob Reiner's Being Charlie.

Halford is certainly far less recognizable that usual in his Jemm costume. At 6'6 he's got the right physical presence for the role, but it remains to be seen how well the make-up and effects come across. Let us know in the comments how you would rate Supergirl's alien characters so far!
