Supporting character Cat Grant will return to Supergirl for the show's season 2 finale. In most ways that matter, the series' transition from CBS to the CW in its second season was practically seamless, with the effects budget hardly being affected and the writing coming from the same creative team, for the most part. In fact, most fans of the superhero series would agree that the transition was for the best since it's allowed for more crossover opportunities between Supergirl and the other Greg Berlanti-produced DC live-action TV shows, like The Flash, Arrow, and Legends of Tomorrow. However, the transition between the two seasons did result in the loss of one key member from Supergirl's first season.

That loss was, of course, Calista Flockhart's Cat Grant, the feisty, intelligent, and independent CEO of CatCo Industries, who acted often as a mentor and advisor to Melissa Benoist's Kara Danvers in her most trying times. But Flockhart has been extremely selective when it comes to her acting roles over the past few years, only choosing projects that are shot in Los Angeles, and allow her to stay with her family. So when Supergirl moved to CW and its production effectively moved from Los Angeles to Vancouver - where all the other CW DC shows are shot - Cat was written out of the series in the beginning of the second season.

Cat Grant hasn't been seen since her departure in the second episode of the season, but since her reasons for leaving left the possibility open for her to return, many fans have been wondering when exactly they might get to see Cat return. Now, Deadline is reporting that Flockhart will be returning as Grant in Supergirl's upcoming two-part season finale. Details on the reason behind Cat's return are currently being kept under wraps, but fans can rest easy knowing they'll finally get to see a reunion between Cat and Kara after all.

Supergirl Season 2 Premiere Kara Danvers Cat Grant

For many fans and even just casual viewers, Cat had quickly become a fan-favorite throughout the course of the first season, which made her departure from the series that much harder to take. While Supergirl's season two has managed to populate its storylines with plenty of new main and supporting characters throughout the season as well, Cat Grant's absence has still been felt, especially when Kara has needed someone to turn to, other than just her friends and coworkers.

It's hard to know what exactly the reason for Cat's return in the season finale is, especially since there are still a couple of episodes left before then. But considering how much Kara's problems seem to be stacking on top of each other as of late, she may be more in need of Cat's advice and assistance than she ever has been before. Luckily, Cat won't be the only notable character returning in the season finale either, with Tyler Hoechlin's Clark Kent/Superman also set to make a return appearance, which should be more than enough reason to start getting excited for the two-part finale.

Supergirl returns Monday, April 24 with "Ace Reporter" at 8pm on The CW.
