The CW's Supergirl is finally winding down after a successful six season run in the Arrowverse. Kara has greatly evolved over this period of time, culminating in some truly memorable moments. While there's plenty of scenes that fans still celebrate, there are also quite a few that have been seemingly forgotten about.
For whatever reason, despite how big these moments were at the time, audiences haven't spoken that much about these overlooked classic scenes. Whether it's a crucial character beat, a note-worthy narrative, a returning character, or a major debut, these moments have continued to add to the tapestry of stories from the DC Comics character's career.
Superman Vs. Supergirl
The Man of Steel was a question mark in the DC Universe that Supergirl was operating in. While there had been a Superman previously in the world, he had not been shown on screen for an extended period of time. When he finally was, fans were treated to a comic book-worthy moment.
With the two Kryptonians pitched against one another, Supergirl and Superman fought in an impressive battle, with Kara ultimately besting her cousin in a moment of triumph. It's a sequence that hasn't been played upon much since but was really a passing of the torch moment.
Lex Luthor's Arrival
Lex Luthor is of course one of the smartest characters in the entirety of the Multiverse and has demonstrated that tenfold. However, he had been largely kept away from Supergirl with the show choosing instead to establish his sister, Lena Luthor.
His arrival into the scene was truly breathtaking, but the real moment of drama was when he stormed a secure facility with Frank Sinatra's 'I Did It My Way' blaring in the background. He was able to show how truly dangerous he was, with Lex making a large impact upon arrival.
The World Ender Reunion
While Supergirl had already presented Samantha Arias (Reign) as the Big Bad in Season 3 of the show, it started to also bring in other World Enders. While Sam's betrayal was against her will, it still meant that Kara had to draw upon strength she had never had to muster before.
The scene where these World Enders finally come together felt like the stuff of fables. It was a massive moment for any TV show and the writers presented this as if the Earth really could be finished off by these lethal ancient aliens. Ultimately Supergirl would win the day, but this cliffhanger moment was one of the best of the show.
Manchester Black Haunting Martian Manhunter
Manchester Black was triumphantly brought into Supergirl and quickly given a complex array of emotions to overcome. Taking a much darker path than many other heroes in the Arrowverse, Maritan Manhunter took it upon himself to stop the violence from going any further.
In the process, Manchester Black was killed, but that didn't stop the anti-hero from haunting the Martian. The internal conflict that J'onn J'onzz struggled with after this incident really fuelled the character for the greater half of a season. It's that initial war of words between the two men that's forgotten about but did a great deal of narrative heavy lifting.
Agent Liberty's Speeches
An element of Supergirl that really played well in later seasons and would indeed thrive again if the show was to revisit the idea once more, way playing off of the themes of 'the other.' Pitching aliens as a threat to overcome in order to protect humanity, Agent Liberty took advantage of people's fear and prejudice.
The character had a number of noteworthy speeches throughout the show, whipping his followers into a frenzy to commit heinous acts. Playing off of real-world political issues, the show took advantage of these complex debates and turned out some of the best stories of the show. These speeches ultimately allowed Supergirl to once again become a beacon of hope.
Cat Grant's Revelation
Cat Grant had largely been a pain in Kara's side for the duration of her time at CatCo Worldwide Media. For the most part, Cat did just want to see Danvers succeed. She could see a true journalist beneath the fluff pieces and wanted to pull out the best of her abilities.
She became a great mentor to Kara in the end, but one moment that's somehow not talked about very often is the revelation that she was aware of her employee's alter ego. Cat had been working with Kara knowing she was Supergirl the whole time, demonstrating her intelligence and loyalty.
Bizarro's Debut
Supergirl has dropped quite a few stories over its six seasons, due to the writers having to juggle so many different characters. One that actually brought with them an air of mystery and intrigue was the CW's version of Bizarro. The character was a young, nameless woman who had been experimented on.
The opposite to Supergirl, her story was wrapped up with Bizarro getting sent away for treatment and was never heard of again. However, the character's introduction quickly established the villain as far from evil but a misunderstood soul for the audience to feel sympathy for.
A New Toyman
Winn Schott was a mainstay of Team Supergirl before leaving to join the Legion of Superheroes in the far future as Computer Lad. He returned to the present timeline to try and put a stop to a Winn from another future, enlisting the help of his father Toyman.
The two made amends despite his father's dark past and Winn did something quite shocking. He took on the moniker of Toyman, looking to instead use it for good. This was a huge character moment, showing Schott's progression and the final resolution of a show-long internal conflict.
Alex's Upgrade
Alex has had some incredibly well-developed storylines over her time on Supergirl, but she was a little left behind in terms of the capes and masks. She had served the D.E.O. for so long that it was hard to imagine her operating in a world of vigilantes.
Fans wanted to see her get a proper costume and codename though and there was a lot of fanfare for her final reveal as Sentinel. However, a moment that built up to this was when Alex got her original upgrade; a superhero suit for her role as the head of the D.E.O. complete with a magnetized gun.
Red Kryptonite
Red Kryptonite has been known to impact the mind of any Kryptonian and Supergirl was actually exposed to the substance for a brief amount of time. Becoming evil, a rage crept into both Kara and the Girl of Steel's lives and dominated her personality.
Giving audiences a chance to see a dark Kara for the first time and allowing Melissa Benoist to flex her acting muscles in a slightly different capacity, the storyline was a unique one that played off of plenty of iconic comic book issues.
