[SPOILERS for those not caught up on Supergirl ahead.]

-

Big events will be happening over the remaining episodes of Supergirl season 2, some of which concern Alex and Maggie as a couple. Supergirl in general has already gone through some big changes during it second season, following its move from CBS to The CW. For example: Cat Grant left, Kara started working as a reporter, James Olsen became The Guardian, the DEO changed locations and Alex Danvers is now dating National City police officer Maggie Sawyer (now that Alex has come out as a lesbian).

The relationship between Alex and Maggie has quickly become a fan-favorite. Since Alex never had any romantic relations with men in Supergirl season 1 - aside from pretending to seduce Maxwell Lord to create a distraction - her coming out and new relationship felt natural and realistic. While Maggie was initially reluctant to be Alex's first girlfriend, she eventually accepted her feelings - and while Alex was unsure of herself at first, she soon learned that Maggie didn't always have the answers. The two of them have weathered it all and grown even stronger over time.

It would seem that there is even more in store for the couple on the horizon. Chyler Leigh, who plays Alex on Supergirl, teased TVLine about what's next for Alex and Maggie in the remaining episodes of season 2:

“I don’t know a lot. But I know one thing that could be happening that might be kiiiind of a big deal for Maggie and Alex. It’s kind of, maybe, sort of a big deal.”

While that certainly does not give away any specifics, it sounds like whatever happens could be a game changer. Maggie and Alex have only been dating for a few months, so it doesn't seem like marriage or them having a child this soon in the relationship is likely. But there are certainly a world of other possibilities. Perhaps maybe they'll move in together, or Maggie might come to work at the DEO and they'll have a real office romance.

A big deal might also not be a positive thing. It could be that Alex will have to face homophobia or discrimination for the first time. Or she might meet Maggie's parents, who were not supportive when their daughter came out to them. Or there could be something far more sinister at play.

Supergirl is a show where many of the characters have secrets. This season alone Mon-El lied about his identity, Winn's girlfriend Lyra used him to steal a painting, James and Winn hid their vigilantism, and the President is secretly an alien. Maggie has certainly kept her share of secrets as well, including lying to Alex both about her relationship to her parents and how she cheated on a past girlfriend. So there is always the possibility of another secret looming. One that could bring the couple closer together, or tear them apart.
