Masahiro Sakurai, director for Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, revealed that Min Min from ARMS would be joining the Smash Bros. roster as a part of the Fighters Pass Vol. 2. Min Min is also the first character from ARMS, the multiplayer fighting game produced by Nintendo for the Switch in 2017, to join the Smash universe.

In March 2020, it was confirmed that an ARMS character would be joining the fight, but it was not announced who the fighter would be. The ARMS roster contains 15 different fighters with the game's mascot characters being Spring Man and Ribbon Girl. A lot of speculations were made as to which character would be included in Smash Bros. with the vast majority believing it to be one of the game's mascots. Others believed the character would be similar to Hero from Dragon Quest that would be one character but could take the form of many different ARMS fighters.

During a live broadcast on the Nintendo YouTube channel, Sakurai revealed that the fan-favorite character Min Min would be the ARMS fighter joining Super Smash Bros. Ultimate. Sakurai stated that ARMS Director Kosuke Yabuki had recommended Min Min be the ARMS representative in Smash Bros. While Spring Man appears to be the game's protagonist, Yabuki stated that every character is ARMS' protagonist.

Sakurai, who is a revered figure in the Smash community, also broke down Min Min's playstyle, and how she will perform mechanically in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate. Min Min's move set has been designed to reflect her playstyle in ARMS making her a unique fighter that excels at far-range combat. Her arms function identically to how they work in ARMS. Her spring arms give her attacks great range allowing her to keep her opponents at bay. She differs from other fighters as her B moves are not special attacks, but rather they control her left arm. Min Min's arms are controlled independently by using B for her left arm and A for her right arm. Her hands can be swapped out during battle, and each type of hand has its own unique abilities.

Gameplay of Min Min was also showcased during the live broadcast which showed how she fairs in battle. While she is great at fighting from afar, she is vulnerable during close-combat. She does have some attacks that allow her to fend off enemies if they get too close, but they aren't as powerful or useful as her arms. In addition to Min Min, those who buy the Super Smash Bros. Ultimate Fighters Pass Vol. 2 will receive the Spring Stadium and ARMS music DLC. Min Min and the rest of her DLC will be available on June 29.
