To celebrate Sora’s addition to Super Smash Bros. Ultimate as the final fighter, one fan designed a wooden keyholder, modeled after the door the Kingdom Hearts character summons in his Final Smash, Sealing the Keyhole. Sora was a surprising pick as Smash Bros. Ultimate's final DLC fighter, but he was a hotly requested inclusion, and many fans consider Sora in Smash to be worth the wait.

When Sora activates his Final Smash, he shoots a beam from his keyblade to open a keyhole-shaped portal. If used correctly, players can send up to three opponents through this portal and into a realm of darkness. A large, white door with the Smash logo closes on the opponents, trapping them within. Sora fires another beam into the door’s keyhole and twists his keyblade as if locking the door, thus sealing the keyhole. Sora strikes a pose before the door explodes on his opponents. Sora’s Final Smash should be used strategically, otherwise players could miss out on knocking out their opponents and waste their Smash Ball.

Designer Shavonne showed off her DIY Kingdom Hearts keyholder on YouTube. It looks identical to the door model used in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, with added hinges and a hook for any keys lying around. Shavonne’s design was laser cut on a sheet of 0.13-inch (or 3.302-millimeter) thin birch plywood. The wood must be thin because the design features an arched frame. This will also help pieces fit together. Shavonne shared her DIY building in the video below.

In this short tutorial, Shavonne explained her laser-cut design, which is available for free on her Gumroad page. Each piece is laid out on a thin sheet of plywood so that any builder can pop them out. Shavonne made parallel cuts in the piece that makes up the door’s arch. This “living hinge” allows the wood to be flexible enough to make up any curved structure. She creatively used skewers to combine the intricate hinge pieces. Shavonne glued all the pieces together using Gorilla wood glue. The design features a keyhole, the Smash logo, and a wooden replica of Sora’s signature keyblade.

This is a cute, simple, and clean way to store keys, perfect for any crafty fan of both Kingdom Hearts and Super Smash Bros. It is great that Shavonne made the design accessible to anyone who wants to put together this DIY project. She even recommended an online laser-cutting service for those who do not have access to one. Fans can only speculate on where the series will go after Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, but for now, they can celebrate what Masahiro Sakurai has done by making art, cosplay, or other DIY projects like Shavonne’s keyholder.
