The Pyra and Mythra showcase for Super Smash Bros. Ultimate has been revealed to take place next week in March. Pyra and Mythra are the next fighters to arrive in the fighter’s pass, and despite technically being two fighters in one, they take up just one spot in theDLC lineup.

Pyra and Mythra are very unique fighters in that they revisit the concept that Zelda and Sheik started all the way back in Super Smash Bros. Melee. The two characters are able to switch between each other freely, with Pyra having heavy hitting fire attacks and Mythra using fast light attacks. From what can be seen in the initial trailer, their special moves are unique and flashy, taking inspiration from the source material with over the top sword moves. Pyra’s Smash attacks are also said to be powered up with fire.

Nintendo has announced this morning that on March 4th, director Masahiro Sakurai will showcase the duo fighter's movesets in depth at 9:00a.m. EST. Along with showcasing the fighters and their movesset, the release date for the pair will also be announced in the presentation. The video will be about 35 minutes long, and Nintendo notes that there won’t be any new fighter announcements during its runtime.

Besides the fighters themselves, one other major aspect that is likely to be revealed are the Mii costumes in this pack. The Mii costumes are often considered a death sentence for characters that aren’t confirmed, as was the case when the Geno costume was released with Sephiroth. The Mii costumes for this pack are most likely to be characters from the Xenoblade series. Some possibilities may include the other party members from Xenoblade Chronicles 2 that have yet to be costumes, while another could be Elma from Xenoblade Chronicles X, who has yet to be represented in Super Smash Bros.

The reaction to these two characters may be somewhat divisive, but despite the online reaction, Xenoblade Chronicles 2 has sold out in Amazon Japan ever since the announcement. Just having these two characters present in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate is giving more exposure and sales to a somewhat niche JRPG series. This is also Xenoblade’s second representative in Super Smash Bros. after Shulk, which makes the negative reception to Pyra and Mythra not as great as someone like Byleth, whose home franchise Fire Emblem has been quite heavily represented in Smash Bros. Love or hate them, there’s no denying that Pyra and Mythra are doing their jobs in successfully marketing the Xenoblade series, and fans will soon be able to find out the release date of these characters in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate on Thursday, March 4th.
