A new rumor indicates that at least a half dozen more characters are coming to Super Smash Bros. Ultimate for the Nintendo Switch. The "leak" comes from the same source that correctly claimed Ice Climbers, Ridley, and Snake would be rejoining the roster. Unveiled by Nintendo at E3, the latest installment in the series will bring together at least 68 fighters, including a few new additions such as Metroid's Ridley, Daisy, and the Inklings from Splatoon. The new game will feature every character in franchise history.

Based on the high number of new characters each new installment adds to the Super Smash Bros. roster, it may not seem all that surprising that a half dozen characters are coming to Ultimate. However, the sheer vastness of Ultimate's roster makes it reasonable to assume that the new game will feature a much smaller number of new fighters. This was confirmed by Ultimate director Masahiro Sakurai who warned fans not to expect "too many new challengers."

A new rumor from Reddit user Vergeben indicates Nintendo has yet to announce "at least a half dozen" new characters for Ultimate. Vergeben has a mixed history when it comes to getting information right about video game leaks. Though all rumors should be taken with a grain of salt, what adds weight to this particular leak is that much of Vergeben's information regarding Ultimate has so far proven reliable.

Super Smash Bros

Vergeben claimed that Metal Gear Solid's Snake, who previously appeared in Brawl, would be coming back for the new game. Vergeben claimed that Ice Climbers, Ridley, and every fighter from the Wii U and 3DS versions would be joining the action as well. What many found questionable about this rumor was that Nintendo had made clear in the past that Ridley was too big for a Smash title.

If Vergeben's information is once again accurate, then we may know the identity of one of the new characters. When Vergeben talked about Ice Climbers and Ridley joining the game, he also mentioned that Simon Belmont would be included with them. Simon Belmont is the protagonist of the first two Castlevania games. The identities of the other new characters are open to speculation. It's a good chance that some of them will be "Echo Fighters" like Daisy, who basically shares the same play style and move set as Princess Peach.
