The Smash Remix mod for Super Smash Bros. recently added Mewtwo from the Pokémon franchise and Fire Emblem's Marth to the game. Both characters were originally considered to be part of the Super Smash Bros. official roster, but each ended up making their official debuts a few years later in 2001's Super Smash Bros. Melee.

Marth's appearance in the Super Smash Bros. series was one of the most important moments for the Fire Emblem franchise, as it was the first time many gamers outside of Japan were exposed to the series. Marth and Roy's popularity in Super Smash Bros. Melee eventually contributed to the decision to localize Fire Emblem games outside of Japan. The connection between Fire Emblem and Super Smash Bros. Melee was even mentioned in the trailer for the Switch port of the original Fire Emblem game. Mewtwo's absence in the original Super Smash Bros. was surprising, considering the popularity of the Pokémon at the time of the game's release. Mewtwo debuted in Super Smash Bros. Melee, skipped Super Smash Bros. Brawl, but returned as a DLC character in Super Smash Bros. 3DS/Wii U, before rejoining the base roster in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate.

The Smash Remix mod for Super Smash Bros. has been gradually adding new characters with each update, with the most recent being Conker and Wolf in the Version 0.9.7 version. A new video on the official Smash Remix YouTube channel announced the Version 1.0.0 release, with a trailer that uses Pokémon Snap as the framework for its reveals. According to the trailer, the latest update adds Mewtwo and Marth to the roster, with move-sets that resemble the ones they use in later games.

The Version 1.0.0 release also added a number of stages to Smash Remix, in addition to costumes, profiles, options, and a song display mode at the start of battle. Smash Remix now includes an All-Star Mode, where players can battle every character in the game. All-Star Mode was added in Super Smash Bros. Melee and it sports an even larger roster in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate; and in All-Star Mode, players have to contend with every character in order of their debut appearance, starting with Mr. Game & Watch and ending with Byleth from Fire Emblem: Three Houses.

The final DLC character for Super Smash Bros. Ultimate is likely to be announced soon, bringing an end to years of leaks and speculation. Masahiro Sakurai has also talked about how Super Smash Bros. Ultimate could be his last game. The days of being hyped for Super Smash Bros. announcements might be coming to an end, but at least fans can look forward to new additions in Smash Remix.
