Today's Super Smash Bros. live stream saw Nintendo unveil several new amiibo, with figures confirmed for the likes of Final Fantasy's Sephiroth, Minecraft Alex, and Kazuya of Street Fighter fame. The special broadcast in question featured a whole host of news for Super Smash Bros. Ultimate; the most notable piece of information centered around the final DLC fighter - Kingdom Hearts' Sora.

Sora will join the fray as the last character in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate's Fighter Pass Vol. 2. Players can expect the Keyblade wielder to hit the battlefield in just a couple of weeks on October 18. But that's not all Smash fans have to look forward to in the weeks and months ahead. Before SSBU Director and series creator Masahiro Sakurai closed out the title's final Direct, he let loose the first details about a few upcoming amiibo figures. Needless to say, collectors won't be displeased.

Though he didn't have any of the figures with him during the presentation, Sakurai offered a first look at the Super Smash Bros. Ultimate amiibo for Minecraft Steve and Minecraft Alex. Steve will hit stores on an unspecified date in Spring 2022; Alex, on the other hand, has yet to receive a release window. Four other amiibo were teased during the Direct, as well - Final Fantasy's Sephiroth, Xenoblade characters Pyra and Mythra, and Street Fighter combatant Kazuya Mishima.

Of course, all of the above-mentioned characters previously joined the Super Smash Bros. Ultimate roster. Minecraft's Steve entered the mix in October 2020 as the second DLC combatant for Fighters Pass Vol. 2. Meanwhile, Alex counted as one of Steve's secondary costumes. Sephiroth hit the battlefield not too long thereafter in December 2020. Pyra and Mythra arrived this past spring. And, finally, Kazuya became Fighters Pass Vol. 2's fifth contestant in late June of this year.

Nintendo released the crossover fighting experience nearly three years ago in December 2018. Suffice it to say, Super Smash Bros.' latest installment performed well both critically and commercially. At approximately 25 million units sold as of June 2021, SSBU counts as the best-selling fighting game of all time - an honor it managed to snag from Street Fighter II. Given the wide gap, the Street Fighter sits at over 15 million units sold, SSBU may hold onto the title for quite a long while.
